Bryan Nguyen is a graphic designer based in the Bay Area. His work reflects his personal feelings and experiences through digital tools like Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Animate. Recently, he has begun exploring animation, audio, and video to expand his creative expression into new and expressive forms.
This first work is a video I made recording my friend Edward to capture what depression feels like to me. Using film and sound to accurately represent my emotions on screen, it captures what I was going through and how depression can feel consuming sometimes. With video editing and sound design to improve the emotional depth of the work, I used the softwares VSCO, Capcut, and Logic Pro.
“Depression”, digital video with sound, 2025
This piece features hand-drawn lettering over a photo I took and edited, capturing the nature of thoughts drifting between reality and imagination. The flowing typography blends into the landscape, symbolizing emotions and memories fading into the air. I used Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, and Procreate to enhance the image and convey a sense of vastness, loneliness, and words lost in the wind.
“Where the Wind Carries my Thoughts”, mixed media digital photograph, 2025
For my last piece, I set up and photographed a small scene using a sculpture I own, fake tulips, and a painting I made based on that setup. In the painting, I reimagined the sculpture and flowers in my own style using bold colors and brushstrokes. This work combines painting, photography, and object arrangement to explore how everyday things can be turned into something expressive. It’s about stillness, quiet observation, and seeing something familiar in a new way.
“Reflection in Stillness”, acrylic paint & photography, 2025
