BIOGRAPHY
Jared Langner is fascinated by the interaction between the digital realm, and its connection to the physical world. He was born and raised in California, although he has visited other states in the country; so far, this includes Hawaii, Massachusetts, and Ohio. He graduated from Branham High School, and is now a student at San Jose State University majoring in Digital Media Arts. His artistic journey began at a young age with simple pencil-on-paper drawings and physical 3D works, mainly based on some of his favorite supernatural, digital media. His fascination with the arts developed into a passion for making digital art through video editing and storytelling, making digital illustrations, and more. He has learned to use Adobe programs such as Animate, Photoshop, and Premiere Pro. More recently, he's been learning more about how to incorporate tools like Blender and Javascript into his art. Using these digital art-making tools, Jared has been exploring new means of artistic expression to challenge himself and become a better artist than he was before. His goal is to work in the film, video, and/or video game industry. In this way, he aims to give others the same happy experiences he had with digital art growing up. Not just that, but through his art, he strives to one day inspire others to become artists themselves.
Jared Langner, Sense of Self, Adobe Lightroom Classic & Adobe Photoshop, 2024
This was a piece I made in my spare time. Using what I've learned so far, I made this self-portrait in glitch art form. This piece takes what I've learned from 2 of my art classes and combines them to display my identity, including the shirt, video game controller, the movie case masking my face, and the glitch effect itself. The Japanese writing and character that appears on the shirt demonstrates the Japanese part of my identity, the video game controller showcases my pursuit of enjoyment and gratification in digital media, the movie case represents the American side of myself and my early childhood, and the glitch effect is meant to depict how I lose sight of who I am at times. However, all I have to do is take a step back, look at where I started, and realize how far I've come so as to regain my sense of self.
Jared Langner, Web Art, Javascript, 2024
This was my "first" time when it came to working with coding and javascript in general, let alone executing specific tasks such as making art with it. The link to my Art 101 web page, where all this code has been uploaded to, can be found by clicking here. I had worked with code before in a summer library course during early high school that lasted a few weeks, but I don't remember much of what I did during that time and it was nowhere near as advanced as this. I didn't end up gaining any coding experience in Art 74 or Art 75, either. Taking this into consideration, I think that the work I ended up with was pretty good, especially because the artwork I made using my drawing tool for this Art 101 Project 1, I only used a mouse. However, the top right and top left photo in the tiled panel at the bottom of this page were made by friends in order to see if the drawing tool worked correctly. While the process of basically learning code from scratch was quite difficult, I feel as though the end results were well worth the challenge. Moreover, by dabbling in various mediums of creating digital art outside of my comfort zone like this, I believe that I can become a better artist that way.
Jared Langner, A Tribute to Toriyama, Digital Video & Digital Illustration, 2024
I made this video to honor Akira Toriyama's legacy, as I made this some time after I found out about his passing. He was such a large inspiration to so many people, like me, so this video was my way of saying "thank you for all that you've done" to him. Furthermore, this also give him what I believe to be a proper sendoff, considering all the positive things he had done in the digital arts and all the powerful, important messages he imparted to his audience. The illustration I made is meant to be me, but in an art style similar to Mr. Toriyama's, wishing him well in the afterlife.
Jared Langner, Morning Routine, Digital Video, 2024
The title of this video explains the content well; the video explores my routine in the mornings to get ready for school. I used numerous sound effects to try and make things funny for the audience. Not only that, but I think it adds a bit of spice into what seems like an otherwise mundane video of a morning routine.
