Danny Dao (Visuals) & Nate Rza (Audio) , Bubble Pop: Picnic On Saturn, Web Art, 2024
Welcome to Saturn, a planet filled with unknown possibilities. Bubble Pop: Picnic on Saturn is an audiovisual spectacle. Expanding on my previous audiovisual piece, Singularity, Bubble Pop: Picnic On Saturn is set in a 3D environment with interactivity to enable motion and control inside the space. The title of the piece is split into two different names. Picnic on Saturn is a song produced by a good friend of mine. The song is in an ongoing process and is currently in development to be produced for an album. When asked about the song, Nate mentioned that, “The goal was to create a song that would emulate the idea of what it would feel like to have a picnic on Saturn.” I pushed this concept further by telling the story of establishing a dialogue with the alien lifeform named Bubble Pop.
Bubble Pop: Picnic on Saturn was made with the use of a variety of shaders for different objects. Each shader is then customized to react to frequency data provided through audio. The song was then edited in collaboration with Nate to enhance the effects of the visuals. Final edits were then done to incorporate both concepts of being on a planet and the entity itself.. Bubble Pop: Picnic on Saturn emphasizes the importance of imagination through both music and visuals. In collaboration, we were able to describe what this song meant to us. When combining the two different worlds together, a story is told through visual and audio immersion creating an environment only possible through the use of the internet as a medium.
Warning: With the use of shaders, the website is highly demanding. Lag may occur on lower end computers.
Danny Dao (Visuals) & Nate Rza (Audio), Singularity, Generative Art Video, 3 Mins., 2023
Singularity is an audiovisual spectacle made with the concept of pushing the concepts of algorithms to create a video that pertains to the human senses of sight and sound. While working on this piece, I was interested in the idea behind black holes and how we as humans get sucked into the idea of passion. This piece is a representation of my start into the world of digital media. The Singularity draws you in, and asks you to think of the bigger picture.
Danny Dao, Perspective, Web Art, 2024
“The only thing granted equally is an unfair reality,” a quote derived from Jujutsu Kaisen, an award winning anime television series, hit home to me. Some people are more fortunate than others, none are born equally; the idea that everyone goes through life under different circumstances. For the past year, I watched a close friend struggle through life as she fell into a state of misery and depression. Our perspectives were polar opposites. I would often talk about my accomplishments while she would often talk about her struggles. For her, she was blinded by failure and told by others that she was not good enough. She felt like a “glitch” in the system and was trapped by the history of her failures.
My inspiration for this project came from countless months of hard conversations. Are our paths different because of our circumstances or is it because of something deeper than that? When can we understand each other? This unfair reality can be overcome… right? These were questions I kept asking myself.
Perspective is an abstract immersive space where the audience is placed outside of a particle system. At first glance, the particle system looks dense and vast, but as the audience journeys into the particle system, a girl trapped in a capsule is slowly revealed. This project uncovers the perspectives of two very different people, one that sees everything, the endless possibilities, and another that sees very little. When the audience finally stands side by side with the girl, only then can they see her perspective.
