Heist

Rachel Larsen, Heist, Adobe Animate, 52 seconds, 2022

Heist is one of my first attempts at an animated short film. Based on a comic I made with a similar plot, Heist is about a thief breaking into a rich man’s home looking for valuables but instead only finds trouble. While creating this film I learned quite a bit about animation, specifically about the importance of character design consistency and plot development. Runtime is just under a minute and is full of light-hearted humor and suspense. To see the full film check out my website.

Calendar

Rachel Larsen, Calendar, Procreate, Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop, 15 x 20 in, 2022

Calendar is a reflection of my 2022 experience. For me, like many, 2022 was a turbulent year full of uncertainty, tragedy and change. This piece represents the feeling of being broken down and struggling to piece oneself together again. This is clearly seen with the many shifting blocks. There was some difficulty maintaining the correct placement and perspective of these blocks but in the end I was satisfied with the final result. Additionally I included some traditional calendar features like the year and the months represented by the twelve lighter blue blocks.

Across the Pond

Rachel Larsen, Across the Pond, Procreate, Adobe Illustrator, Cardstock & Polymer Clay, 2021

I created the game Across the Pond to mimic the life of a dragonfly and its fight for survival in a dangerous and ever-changing environment. As well as a digital mockup I also made physical cards and game pieces for this game which is featured on my website.

Across the Pond is a two player game where individual pieces move across a "pond” of cards. Each card is face down and when landed on has a mystery action that can have a positive, negative or neutral effect. The goal for a player is to reach the other side, however certain cards can impact their movement or completely eliminate them from the game.
