The Russian 7.62cm SIS-3 field gun, which was also very well suited ofr antitank use, was described by experts of the Krupp firm as the best 7.62cm caliber gun used in World War II. Without any exaggeration it could be said that it was one of the most brilliant designs in the history of artillery. The guns success was based on its low weight, reliability, and simple use. For the first time in the Soviet Army, a gun was used with a muzzle brake. The number of parts needed for the gun was reduced from the 2080 of the earylier Type F-2 to 719 in the SIS-3, which reduced the prduction time from 2034 to 475 hours. The SIS-3 gun was the Soviet Unin's first gun to be made on an assembly line. One factory turned out up to 120 guns a day in 1944.
