Jeremanian history

Before becoming a part of Triman, the territory of Jereman was mostly uninhabited steppes. It was gradually settled by refugees fleeing the oppressive rule of the Black Magi of Kardomir and Tulgarian herders moving northwest in search of new pastures. These people mixed and gave rise to the Jeremanian horsemen. With the land becoming more populated, Kardomir attempted to take control over it. While they didn’t hold control over the land, a heavy tax was collected by the rulers of Kardomir, who also organised slave hunting parties into the steppes. In the second war between Kardomir and Triman the Jeremanian horsemen sided with the Kniaz of Triman. After the defeat of the Black Magi of Kardomir Jereman remained an allied state which gradually took over more Trimanian culture. Growing in richness and building cities it soon became a target for Tulgarian raiders. To attain protection and create a regular army Jereman joined Triman as a separate province, with one of the Tzars sons being named kniaz. While Triman was strong, the Tulgarian raiders attempted only small attacks, and came more often to trade than to wage war. During this time, pirates attacked from the summer islands, however the Trimanians were able to fend them back, and the united fleet of Triman was sent to hunt down the pirate ships. During the last years the power of the province has declined, culminating in the sacking of Vostokograd in the start of the reign of king Vsevolod the Cruel. The Kniaginia of Jereman was killed in the attack, leaving no heir. Rumour has it that the army of the Trimanian Tzar, who came to aid and lift the siege on the city in stead joined with the Tulgarian raiders and that only with Trimanian siege knowledge it was possible to take the city. There are also rumours that the Kniaginia was killed by the men of the Tzar. Tsar Vsevolod decided to make the province of Jereman part of the Tzars own holdings and launched a counterattack on Tulgar, a campaign that was far from successful, save for the group of Jeremanians and Gradoslavians led by kniaz Vratslav of Gradoslavl, who were able to secure the Jeremanian border against the Tulgarian raiders, making kniaz Vratslav far more popular than the tzar. This force was even able to gain aid from the summer islands, with kniaz Vratslav holding them to their ancient alliance with Gradoslavl even though most of the summer islands were not allied with Triman anymore. The summer islands are now seen as allies by many Jeremanians. After the murder of the Tzar, no true candidate for kniaz has emerged, as the new Tzar never went to Jereman to take the seat of the kniaz, and the capitol Vostokograd was never rebuilt. In stead, the commoners went back to living under local leaders, with various warlords bearing the title Ataman leading villages against each other. Currently, a confederation lead by two Atamans seems to have most power. The two warlords, a man and a woman has followed Tulgarian tradition and set a male and female to hold each position of power, something unheard of in Triman. The Trimanian church seems however to accept this arrangement.
