The province of Jereman used to be a land of farmers, fishermen and herders, with a strong defence against raiders from the eastern steppes. In recent years, internal strife and lack of support from the Tzar has led to it’s decline, culminating in the sacking of Vostokograd in the start of the reign of tzar Vsevolod the Cruel. The Kniaz of Jereman was killed in the attack, leaving no heir. Tzar Vsevolod decided to make the province of Jereman part of the Tzars own holdings. After the murder of the Tzar, no candidate for Kniaz emerged, and the capitol Vostokograd was never rebuilt. Various warlords, titled Atamans have tried to take control over the province, while the beggar knights of the church try to defend the commoners. The situation grew worse with Vesanian pirates attacking the coast, driving most fishermen away from the shore. This has lead to a situation where no one feels safe in the province, and no one can be trusted, as they can be following a different warlord and therefore willing to attack to give that warlord an advantage. Many have traveled to other provinces, or left their villages and hid in the steppes. Currently, a confederation lead by two Atamans seems to have most power. The two Atamans, a man and a woman has followed Tulgarian tradition and set a male and female to hold each position of power, something unheard of in Triman. The Trimanian church seems however to accept this arrangement. These two Atamans have also reinstated the institute of bogatir and with the support of beggar knights from the church they have been able to banish the other warlords from the area. Having lost their territory but not their men at arms, these other Atamans fled to Tulgar and have attempted to gain supporters there to attack Jereman and depose the ruling Ataman confederacy. The confederacy will not be able to hold power without the backing of the rest of Triman, however they have no claim to the position as Kniaz of Jereman, and with no Tzar in place, there are few in Triman he can expect help from.
