Svarog is venerated as a god of agriculture, knowledge and science, healing and crafting skills. Svarog and the Black Serpent are neither woman or man, but can appear as either gender at will. Pronoun in swedish will be "hen"
They are associated with light and the sun and the symbol of Svarog is a sun-star. Svarog is also seen as a creator god, although little is said in the holy scriptures about the origin of creation, the origin of angels and demons, the Black Serpent and Svarog. The scripture is currently interpreted as angels, demons and the Black Serpent not having been created by Svarog.
It is said that Svarog appeared before the people in the earliest time and learned them how to grow crops. Through this Svarog gave people knowledge of many things, and taught them the division between good and evil. The church of Svarog maintains that this made people into humans, and that they were animals before this knowledge. The church also maintains that any creature that can distinguish between good and evil is human in the eyes of Svarog
When people learned agriculture they started to settle together and build villages to aid each other. Thus civilization was born. Svarog taught them the runes, so that they could write magic, and astronomy so they could find their way by the stars and the sun. However, the agents of the Black Serpent sought out humans, and taught them war, and how to make weapons. Villages started attacking each other, people hunted each other in the forrest, and some ate the flesh of humans or sacrificed humans to the power of evil. The agents of the Black Serpent promised them power, and the people started to worship the agents of the Black Serpent as well as the Black Serpent. Svarog was angered by this, and tried to cast out the agents of the Black Serpent. They showed the people that these agents only wanted to bring evil to humans. Some humans wanted then to worship Svarog in their place, but Svarog rejected their worship, saying that they should not look for a master, but that every sentient being was equal, and he had only shared of his knowledge, as they should to each other. From here comes the rule to share of ones knowledge freely. The humans asked Svarog for guidance, and were given the church laws. They also gave the responsibility to be guides and healers to those humans that were most adept in magic.
Unfortunately, there were more humans that worshipped the agents of the Black Serpent, than those that followed the teachings of Svarog. This worship of evil gave the demon agents power, and through them power to their master, the Black Serpent. The Black Serpent declared war on all humans and attempted to enslave them. Svarog opposed the Black Serpent, but alas they were not a warrior. They were a sage, a healer and a teacher. They had no power to wield against the agents of evil. Helpless they could do nothing but heal those who were wounded by the weapons of evil, or bring the dead back to life. They could however not end their suffering.
Fortunately, Svarog was not the only being of good in the universe. Besides Svarog, there are angels. They are beings akin to Svarog, yet different, with less power and wisdom, but with more cunning and knowledge in the art of battle. They came down to our world with armour of copper and swords shining brighter than the sun. They waged war on the agents of the Black Serpent in the name of Svarog, for they had great love and respect for them and saw them as their teacher. The angels fought long and hard against the demons of the Black Serpent, and against the humans that fought on the side of evil. And thus it was that angels begot no love for humans, but saw them as evil and wicked, even though Svarog held great love for humans. In the final battle they weakened the Black Serpent, but could not slay them, for the Black Serpent was of the same nature as Svarog, and could not be slain in our world. Svarog cast a powerful spell to banish the Black Serpent and the demons. This spell weakened Svarog to such a degree that they themselves also could not remain in our world, and they became lost to the mortals. A gate was opened and pulled the powers of evil out of this world. The angels took up guarding the gate from the other side, to prevent the powers of evil to come back to our world. While the angels were disappointed with humans and blamed them for the fall of Svarog, a small group of humans had been loyal to Svarog and fought by the side of the angels against the Black Serpent. They were recognised to be of virtue by the angels, and given the task of guarding humans against evil. They had been given weapons and armour to fight besides the angels, and this armour and weaponry they now kept. For the colour of their arms, they became known as the copper guard
