We had a great NSA Maine Chapter meeting this past week! Three PWS (Natalie, Andy, and me) and two SLPs (Lydia and me) attended and we covered several topics and as usual, never got to my "backup topic" of resilience LOL! Since Natalie and Andy hadn't met Lydia before, they shared some of their backgrounds, and she reciprocated with hers. Andy's current experience and challenges with his job search led us to discuss "disclosing your stutter". Yes, we talk about this often, don't we? But the topic always seems "fresh" and as we share even more experiences and thoughts, it always boils down to the fact that it's got to be an individual decision based on each context/situation. Lydia especially liked hearing our experiences/thoughts as she currently works with and counsels her clients who stutter. We also talked about the contexts in which we seem to stutter less or more. And again just like our thoughts on disclosure, we're all over the map in terms of which contexts and situations challenge us the most. The adage is true that. If you meet one person who stutters, you've met one person who stutters!
