Four of us met up via Zoom on Monday for a good connection and conversation; Megan, Natalie, Rick, and I. We talked about the upcoming holiday season and ways to cope with all the chaos. I like to just take time out in a quiet room. We agreed it's good to keep things in perspective. The sky never falls in and neither does the holiday last forever. We discussed realizing you realize you aren't responsible for other people's behaviors. We also share some personal current challenges and know that it is good to have the support of NSA Maine peeps! This discussion of personal challenges led to a wider discussion of how stuttering impacts going through hard times. If you stutter, it's even harder to communicate needed information to other helpers, like physicians, teachers, etc. with the extra added personal worries and stress. Natalie helped us to center on the idea that it's important to figure out who you "really are" and focus on that rather than letting stuttering define you. So we also shared ideas of ways to communicate the needed facts/thoughts/observations during time-limited appointments with professionals. It was all a good discussion.Â
