Happy to report that the E. Maine NSA Chapter met last night! Wow...a huge group ! Chris, Erin, Jason and myself were there and we were so glad to welcome two new members who stutter: Inne and Claustin. In addition, 3 SLP grad students from U Maine attended: Kimberly, Megan and Emily ! It was great to have such a big group.
We started with round robin introductions, which took a bit longer than usual with all the new people ! It's always good for use "regulars" to remember some of our history and what led us to the NSA. Both Claustin and Inne shared some of their history and how they got to this NSA meeting. The grad students were eager to learn from us.
We did a short activity about "avoiding" that I copied from another Chapter's Meeting last month ( It was either U. WVA. or College of St. Rose !...I forget now, but whoever...Thanks guys !!). The activity, for us, was a good one to get discussion started about avoiding and who and how we avoid. Both Erin and Chris shared how they have learned to do more advertising especially with their students and interviews. BUT...we all agreed that, being "accepting and comfortable with stuttering, is such a long journey and and individual one. We can all learn from each other!
