Please Honor Two High School Graduates Friday June 5th 3:00-3:30pm:
All neighbors are invited to participate and congratulate our two neighborhood high school graduates. This event was created by Heather F. Bohac-Jackson to make sure that two of our own neighborhood high school graduates are recognized for all of their contributions in high school since COVID-19 has put a damper on having graduation ceremonies this year; plus, it is difficult to throw parties at this time too with their families, relatives, and friends with Social Distancing Still in Place. Just think back in your lifetime on how special of an occasion it was graduating from high school and/or college and the excitement of walking across the stage in front of your loved ones to receive your diploma. Let’s all try to make Friday afternoon special for them as much as we can by just being in our driveways to support them as they drive by in their cars.
As a reminder from the last newsletter last week, please be in your driveways and find your own way to clap, cheer, and wave to our graduates so they know our neighborhood cares about their high school success. I would like to introduce our two beautiful graduates and share with you who they are, what they have both done as exceptional high school students (from two different high schools) so all neighbors get to know who they are and their community involvement and experiences in high school.
Meet Jenna:
Jenna is the daughter of Susan and Jeff who live on Ashbury Court. She is graduating as Valedictorian from Lynden Christian High School. She is excited to announce she will be attending The Barrett Honors College at Arizona State this fall. She will be studying Health Sciences.
She has enjoyed being part of the elite Chamber Choir and Concert Choir at Lynden Christian High School with musicals such as The Sound of Music. She was hired as a page for the House of Representatives her freshman year in high school and uses the knowledge she gained from this experience to teach others about leadership in her National Honor Society chapter. Jenna also had the honor of being invited to the Congress for Future Leaders in Medicine in Boston, MA during this past summer 2019 which was an honor to participate in and add to her educational experience in being able to learn from some of the brightest intellectual minds in medicine. This experience will help her with her major in Health Sciences where she hopes to pursue a career in Optometry.
Jenna has also been active in teaching Sunday School to kindergartners at her church and loves working with children. She also serves as a large group prayer leader.
Meet Hayley:
Hayley is the daughter of Gail and Kirby who live on Ashbury Court. She is graduating from Blaine High School with a 3.90 GPA and has been a member of the Honor Society. She is excited to be accepted and planning to attend the University of Victoria this fall. She will be majoring in Social Sciences and keeping career options open at this time.
Hayley has spent hundreds of hours as a cheerleader for three years and served as Cheer Co-Captain during this last year as a senior. She also was on the tennis team all four years in high school and sports took up a lot of her time during the school year. Hayley worked two summers at the Birch Bay Water Slides and enjoyed her job.
Other activities included volunteering at the Battle of the Border for three years. In addition, she spent endless hours volunteering at Family Fun Nights, Chili Feeds, and other school and community fundraisers. She also enjoyed being a member of the REACH program too.
Hayley was proud also to be a member of Blaine’s Wind Ensemble and traveled to Japan with the Wind Ensemble playing the flute representing the high school in this cultural opportunity.
Thank You in Advance Neighbors:
Thanks to all the neighbors that are able to come together this Friday from 3:00-3:30pm to bring “Joy and Cheer” to Jenna and Haley who will remember this event as a way to be honored as exceptional graduates when norms of society have been interrupted in 2020 with a formal graduation ceremony. We look forward to hearing about their college success in years to come when they graduate from college and get to celebrate with their college degrees and graduation in a ceremony with a handshake too.
Blessings to our Graduates in 2020!
Best Regards,
Kathy Barnes
