Our guest speaker for our meeting is Rev. Ava Park, Founder and Curator of The

Airport, educating the public about the veneration of goddess in ancient times. Ava

is an international expert in goddess mythology, history, culture and lore, and will

be sharing with us a few interesting facts about the history of selected female

deities on coins, including a discussion of the hidden historical background of

“Lady Liberty.” Ava has a degree is goddess theology and, in addition to The

Museum of Goddess History and Culture, has also founded and currently directs

the only fully functioning modern-day goddess temple of its kind in the world, The

Goddess Temple of Orange County.

Refreshments: David Pai

Special Guests: Manny and Beret Acosta, owners of Huntington Beach Coin

Exchange

Minutes of August 2015 Meeting

Guests: Jon Awerkampʼs son Charles, continuing the tradition of the

Awerkamp family. Welcome back to Rodolfo and Jorge. We missed you.

Membership: So far, we have 66 paid up members for 2015.

Announcements: Our club sold over 25 books of tickets for the NASC

Golden States gold coin drawing at our last meeting alone and this certainly

accounted for some of our club members being winners. It was the usual

crowd winning gold coins, namely Bliss and Lynn. Roy Iwata won also from

a ticket bought through the Long Beach club. Thanks to all of you who

supported these ticket sales benefiting both our club and NASC.

I am happy to announce that Stan Gibson and Laurence Koike will be

providing coffee for our future meetings. Thanks again to Roy for tirelessly

providing this service to our club for the last several years.

Old and New Business: Chris Caldwell, our new treasurer, is interested in

your comments about the type of coins that we raffle off at each meeting.

What specific coins would you like to see? For example, silver American

Eagles, proof Eisenhower dollars, specific 20th century US silver coinage,

foreign coins, etc? Chris and I will be sending out a survey to determine

your interests. We want to offer coins that you really want to win!!

Donations: Thanks to the many members who continue to support our

club with their regular donations. This is a good time to thank Manny and

Beret for always supporting our club at their Huntington Beach coin store.

These contributions and support are greatly appreciated.

Education Program: Jerry Kleeb provided and interesting talk on

Byzantine Bronze coins. One comment that Jerry made was that silver

coins in the Byzantine era were more valuable than gold because of their

scarity.

Prizes: Jim Malone won the Dos Pesos gold coin.

Future Coin Shows: Note that the next North County Coin Show willl be held

on 9/13 at the Embassy Suites (off of Frontera Street in Anaheim). Also donʼt

forget the upcoming Long Beach show on September 17-19. See our club

website for more details and a full listing of all Southern California coin

shows: <www.occoinclub.com> .

Respectfully submitted,
