Our November meeting will be Nov 1; mark your calendar! North
County coin shows resume in October. Jocelyn Chu and I drafted two
different versions of flyers advertising our GOCCC club at the recent Buena
Park coin show. Thank you goes to Jocelyn for suggesting the idea
and for distributing the flyers at the October Buena Park show. This is
our first attempt to bring in new members from a local coin show. We will
have to carefully monitor our new members to determine how they found
out about us. Recall from our last meeting that one of our new members
came to our meeting and joined after visiting our booth at the ANA World’s
Fair of Money in Anaheim, manned by several dedicated club members
Mike, Brad, David S, Bill, Ken, and Mark. Thanks guys, this support
was really appreciated!
Our liability insurance policy has now been issued and $400 was
paid insuring us for the period September 1, 2016 to September 1, 2017.
Old and New Business: The city notified us that our existing room would
no longer be available in 2017. The Costa Mesa Community Center
facility officially closes Dec 21, 2016. Our new meeting room will be at
Orange Coast Unitarian Universalist Church (OCUUC) located at 2845
Mesa Verde Drive East, in Costa Mesa. (Corner of Adams and Mesa Verde
Drive East, behind Torelli Realty and across from Piecemakers. )
I recently received a copy of our new lease after making a $100
deposit and delivering our fully signed copy of the lease to OCUUC.
The new lease was signed by President Glen Franks, Vice President Mike
Ontko and secretary Bill Pfeifer. Accepting and signing for OCUUC was
Meg Wilson , VP of Finance.
Our first meeting in the new facility will be on WEDNESDAY January
11, 2017. .
Remember NEXT YEARS MEETINGS WILL BE ON THE SECOND
WEDNESDAY OF EVERY MONTH and since the room will be
accessible at 6:30PM, we hope to get the meeting started at 7:00PM.
Thanks to all of our members, officers and board members who provided
suggestions for finding a suitable room site. It wouldn’t have been possible
without all your help.
Les Watson made a motion, seconded by Mike Ontko, that we authorize
the officers to establish a no cost checking account at Bank of The West.
This will enable our treasurer to pay routine expenses without incurring
money order fee. Every little bit helps.
Nominations are now open for CY 2017 officers. Elections will be
held at the November meeting after receiving all nominations.
Brad Yonaka has agreed to coordinate a ‘BUY Board’ via our
newsletter. Let him know what coins you are interested in buying at our
club auctions and we will use the newsletter to advertise your interests.
Members wishing to sell these coins can put them into our auction.
Donations: Thanks to those who continue to support our club with
their regular donations; the support is greatly appreciated.
Please acknowledge the extra special support of Brad Yonaka, John
Skocilic , David Schwager and Joe Boyes who each pledged to pay
one month of the policy premium costs for our new liability insurance.
Jim Ewert also suggested we have a white elephant sale of donated
items at our November meeting to further reduce our out of pocket
costs for the insurance . Good idea Jim!
Please make a special effort to shop at OC RARE COIN and BULLION
(Harbor and 19th, Costa Mesa). This local coin shop has been extremely
generous to our club, giving us many valuable coins to support our club
auctions. Recent gifts included a 2 1/2 peso gold coin, personally
delivered to our club by Tom Grinnell; previously they have provided silver
eagles, silver dollars, etc. Show them your appreciation by shopping at
their facility at 1927 Harbor Blvd , Unit B, in Costa Mesa.
Education Program: Mike Ontko presented a very interesting talk on
“Silver Dimes of Europe”. Mike covered every country in Europe that
produced dimes. This was really quite an undertaking involving
considerable research: the talk was well presented. Another nice job by
Mike!!
Prizes: Jorge Andrade won the Dos Pesos and Chris Caldwell won the
1/10th oz. gold. (John Madatian won the Dos Pesos at our August
meeting).
Future Coin Shows: For a full listing of all Southern California coin shows,
