Minutes of April 2011 Meeting
Membership and Guests:
We now have 60 paid up members for 2011.
Announcements:
Raffle tickets are available for gold and silver coin drawings sponsored by NASC at the Golden State Coin Show, Aug.27-28 2011. Five tickets for $3, and our club gets $1.50 for every $3 of ticket sales, so itʼs a win-win for everyone. See Bill P for tickets at the meeting.
Old Business:
A motion was made and seconded to formalize a website for our club. Members are asked to consider inputs to Laura who has agreed to be manager of the site. Laura will enter items onto the site but will not be responsible for composition. More discussion is necessary to complete specifics like registration costs and a domain name and web address. Club officers need to supply biographical data to Laura for use on the site. Members need to discuss the desirability of additional information for the site, beyond what Laura has already simulated. This temporary site is patterned after Lauraʼs "Paper Money" site If you havenʼt seen these sites, please do so before our May meeting.
New Business:
None
Donations
Several club members continue to donate many worthy items for our club auctions, including Kyle who is most prolific providing various numismatic supplies, auction catalogues and coin books. Last month Les donated an autographed copy of David Langeʼs “Complete Guide to Lincoln Cents.” These donations provide an important source of revenue for our club, enabling us to improve the quality and quantity of raffle prizes and many other club items. Our club really appreciates this continuing generosity. Special thanks to Roy who provides coffee for every meeting and to those members providing refreshments every month.
Educational Program:
Bill C presented a thorough and interesting talk on “Balance Scale 25 Centavos of Mexico, 1869-1892.”
Show and Tell:
Our usual cast of characters exhibited everything from Mexican coins to Japanese tokens, aluminum coins, valuable error $100 bills, Spanish American bust dollars, trading- silver 25 Centavos, National Cash Register medals, old stove tokens and a booklet on U.S. Bonds, War Issues. Every month these show and tell items illustrate the breadth of our memberʼs collecting diversity and “lucky coin finds” made while searching circulating coin rolls. It also helps to have friends working at casinos (ask Jay).
Prize Winners:
Some of the winners were David, “Little-John”, Glen, Matt, Brad, Ron and Bill. Glen won the Dos Pesos gold.
