Meeting Program:
Februaryʼs educational program featured Jim Wells, noted historian and numismatist, talking on the War of 1812. He discussed this bicentennial year of the War of 1812 in historical terms answering questions such as Who were the participants? What heroes emerged? What was the Navyʼs role? Who “won”? And how is this war remembered in numismatics, a field eager to commemorate heroes and momentous events?
Mr. Wells' presentation included many interesting illustrations that answered these questions. Metals and other numismatic memorabilia were described in detail. All of us learned much of the history of this war. In the final analysis, Jim traced his family roots directly to participants in the war. An extremely interesting and informative talk that was well done!
Those of you who missed this talk will have another opportunity to hear it at the CSNA Educational Symposium (see above announcement).
