Old and New Business: Our latest by-laws were accepted by an overwhelming
majority of our active membership at our April meeting. Our next order of business is to
formalize the election of our Board of Directors. According to our by-laws, all current
officers and assistant officers (assistant treasurer, Rodolfo Velarde and assistant
secretary David Schwager) are automatically members of our board. Four additional
board members are to be elected from our membership to complete our board. A
call for nominations for these additional board members has been made in
todayʼs meeting announcement and will be repeated at our next meeting.
Two of our club members* presented papers at the CSNA 46th Annual Southern
California Educational Symposium which was held April 12 in San Diego, CA.
*Albertus Hoogeveen ~ Boy Scout Exonumia
*Jerry Kleeb ~ Constantinian Silver Plate Follis
Ted Koopman ~ The Coin Market Today
William D. Hyder ~ Elder versus Zerbe: Satirical Medals from the 1909 ANA Election
These lectures were excellent and with several of our members in attendance , our club
was well represented at the symposium.
I have renewed our ANA membership for 2014 at no cost to our club. We saved the $75
membership fee by getting an ANA credit of $5 for each active ANA member in our
club. With your help, I was able to submit 15 members names and verify them with the
ANA membership secretary to get us the total savings of $75. Every little bit helps!
Donations: We thank all of our club members who have donated items to our club.
Meeting Program: Mark Baskin presented a very interesting talk on “The Minting
Process and Its Relationship to Mint Errors and Counterfeit Detectionl”
Mark presented a well rounded description of the minting process and provided many
examples of error coins. He also explained how a knowledge of coining operations was
useful in detecting counterfeit coins.
Prizes: Nate Butler won the dos pesos gold.
