Wk 10: Procedural Modeling

Learning Goals

Students will be able to:

  1. Goal describe procedural modeling.

  2. Create live copies of objects with Instance Objects.

  3. Model a straight staircase with the Cloner object.

  4. Model a spiral staircase with the Cloner object.

  5. Create & randomize a grid of clones.

  6. Layout placards on a surface.

Agenda

Note: The exact timing and topics covered may shift.

Dailies: 9:00am-9:20am

  1. Homework Review: Photographic Textures

  2. Q&A: Have any questions come up since last class?

Morning Challenge: 9:00am-9:20am

  1. Using the knowledge you already possess, try to model the Parthenon:

Homework 10:45am-10:50pm

What:

  1. Project: Create an environment using procedural modeling techniques. You can create a human landscape & architecture from any era in history, or imagine an alien world or spaceship. I'm looking for:

    1. A 1920x1080 Still Frame (you can animate if you want, but it's not required).

    2. Environment / Architecture created using procedural modeling tools, like:

      1. Instances

      2. MoGraph Cloners

      3. Array Objects

      4. Symmetry Objects

      5. Primitives

    3. Photo-based textures

    4. Lighting / Shading that creates a mood

    5. Careful camera composition

    6. Please plan to spend 6hrs on this project.

Due: By the start of our next class session on your Course Projects Blog.
