Learning Goals

Students will be able to:

  1. Find preset materials.

  2. Apply materials to objects.

  3. Adjust the tiling settings of materials.

  4. Describe the purpose of the Color, Bump, & Specularity material channels.

  5. Find and apply appropriate textures for the objects in their scene.

Finding and Applying Preset Materials (9:20am-9:45am)

  1. Discuss: What is a Material?

    1. UV Scale settings in Texture Tag

Creating your own Materials from Scratch (10:15am-10:45am)

Homework (10:45 - 10:50)

What: Theatrical Texturing Exercise

  1. Pick a scene from a play/movie/novel that takes place in a bedroom.

  2. Texture the bedroom scene so that it fits into the world of the play. Try to keep the following questions in mind as you design:

    1. Who does this room belong to?

      1. How old are they?

      2. What's their gender?

      3. What are their interests?

    2. What is the content of the scene?

      1. What is the time of day?

      2. Is there an emotional tone that you can accentuate?

  3. Post a rendered image to your course projects blog with the following information:

    1. Subject: Bedroom Texturing: Character Name from Play/Film/Book Title

    2. Content:

      1. Image of your scene.

      2. A brief description (2-4 sentences) of the character & play.

      3. An excerpt from the the scene in the play/film/novel in which this bedroom is set.

Due: Post the final result to our shared GDrive before the start of our next class session.
