How to smooth out a jerky spline

Select your spline object
Attributes Manager -> Type -> Cubic: This should smooth out a lot of the worst kinks. (You might also try B-Spline)
Select Points Mode
Select your move or selection tool
Select points near kinks one at a time, and press Delete.
