It's tempting to think a person or event is simple with a clear right and wrong. Usually people and life are more of a mixture. Beware of false dichotomies.
Some examples:
My daughter mentioned one good example today. She sometimes has trouble getting the kids to go to bed when she wants. This can be frustrating and even depressing, feeling like she failed when they don't obey. This is probably a false dichotomy because it's common and normal for children to want to stay up a little longer and for parents to feel frustrated with trying to get them to obey. There aren't just 2 outcomes, but many including varying levels of resistance and pushing.
