Movie Trailer And Mood
(Be sure that you've finished Life at JAJHS and Count to Five before you do this extra credit so that you know how Windows Movie Maker functions!)
It's time to make your own movie trailer. However, there is a catch!
Assignment:
1. Choose a movie and determine what genre it falls into.
2. Download existing trailers and/or clips from that movie.
3. Make your own movie trailer that makes the movie look like it belongs in an entirely different genre using Windows Movie Maker.
Example: If you choose Toy Story, make it look like a horror movie. If you choose the Hunger Games, make it look like a romantic comedy.
Steps:
Decide on a movie you want to recut. Once you decide on a movie, download any trailers and/or clips you can find on YouTube. *SCHOOL APPROPRIATE*
Once you find the video you want to download, Go to this website
Copy and paste the address in the box. When the video appears, click "Video," "Convert" (on the highest fidelity available), and then "Download."
Make sure you know where the video is being saved to. (If it saves automatically, remember that you can simply right click on the file at the bottom of your screen, click "Show In Folder," and then drag it over to your personal folder.)
Start a new Movie Maker project.
Make sure your first clip is a title detailing the name of the movie and which genre you are transferring from and to. This clip does NOT count as part of your project; it is just to help Mr. Alexander understand your shift. Please do not layer music over it or count it as part of the "runtime" of your trailer.
Import clips from your folder on the desktop. Remember, make sure your movie makes sense! Don't just import random clips. Put some thought into it.
Now you can:
Add transitions (Mandatory: you must have at least 1)
Add effects (Mandatory: you must have at least 1)
Change fonts
Modify the length of clips
Add photos
Add sound effects
Add voiceover
Add text
Change the music of your project by selecting a different song from the music drive. This step is mandatory: your project will not be different enough without new music!
Press "Save Movie" and "For Computer." (If you need help, check out this short tutorial.) Name it whatever you'd like and drop it in your folder. Call me around to check!
Here are some good ones from YouTube!:
Mary Poppins as a Horror Movie
The Dark Knight as a Romantic Comedy
The Shining as a Family Comedy
Dumb and Dumber as a Thriller (in the style of Inception)
Star Wars as a Action Comedy (in the style of Guardians of the Galaxy)
Super Mario Bros. as a Horror Movie (Mr. Alexander's Example)
Notes:
Please do not simply take an already recut trailer from the internet (for example, Lion King as a Horror Movie) and edit those clips into your movie. All clips included in your trailer should be raw footage from your movie. Trust me...I'll know.
Sometimes, trailers have music where the actual movie doesn't, which can interfere with your background audio. If you're looking for a specific line of dialogue, trailers are probably not your best bet. Look for regular footage from the film!
If you finish this assignment after the in-class time, that's fine! Please email it to me. However, you can't just send me the .wlmp file. You must mix it down at an .mp4 before you send it off to me!
Yes, this is worth a possible whopping SIXTY points. That's because it's rather difficult. Work wisely!
Great Student Examples:
Finding Nemo as a Horror Movie
The Conjuring as a Comedy Movie
Can I do this extra credit from home?: TOTALLY YES!
