Life at JAJHS

A 50 point grade!

For this assignment, you're going to be doing a "commercial" of sorts for JAJHS. At this link, I've collected for you some movies and a few soundclips. Please watch all of the videos, and download those that look interesting. In addition, download one of the soundclips. Then, follow this set of directions:

  1. Import the movies and sound into a Windows Movie Maker file.

  2. Save the file in your folder with a name you'll recognize.

  3. Mute the sound on the videos.

  4. Listen to the sound file. As you can hear, it is describing several aspects of life at JAJHS.

  5. Match up the video clips to the sound. If I'm talking about the cafeteria, for example, put a video of it on the timeline!

        • The video clips may be too long! You'll need to trim them to fit the sound.

  6. Add in a title that reads "Life at JAJHS." Format it and make it your own.

  7. Add credits at the end that tell:

        • Producer (Your Name)

        • Voiceover and Video (Mr. Alexander)

        • Format it and make it your own.

  8. Add captions to at least 4 of the videos. Captions are words that appear on the videos. Place the words somewhere on the image where they are not covering anything important. Format it and make it your own.

  9. Now you can:

        • Add transitions (Mandatory: you must have at least 1) (Be careful, however, that the length of the transitions doesn't negatively affect how the words sync with the movies!)

        • Add effects (Mandatory: you must have at least 1)

        • Change fonts (Mandatory: you must format your text, always! Change the size, color, background, font, etc.)

        • Modify the length of clips

        • Add photos

        • Add sound effects

        • Add text

  10. Press "Save Movie" and "For Computer." (If you need help, check out this short tutorial.) Name it whatever you'd like and drop it in your folder. Call me around to check!

My example is here.

Things to Remember:

  • Not every clip is good. Further, not every part of every clip is great. Your job is to separate the wheat from the chaff and pick the excellent parts of all clips!

  • Be careful that the music/monologue doesn't start when you still have "Life at JAJHS" on the screen. After all, that's not part of your commercial, just a title! You wouldn't see that on TV. The same goes for the credits!

  • If you finish this assignment after the in-class time, that's fine! Please email it to me. However, you can't just send me the .wlmp file. You must mix it down at an .mp4 before you send it off to me!
