DIY Extra Credit
MORE EXTRA CREDIT?!
Many students view extra credit as a way to make up for assignments they didn't complete or didn't turn in, but that is NOT the purpose of extra credit. Extra credit is exactly what the word stem "extra" indicates it should be ... work that is "above and beyond" what is required, and it should be used to enhance your learning, as well as improve your grade. If, after turning in all required assignments, you decide you would like to improve your grade by doing extra credit, there are opportunities available to you.
BUT THERE ARE ALREADY EXTRA CREDIT ASSIGNMENTS!
Well, yes, but...they are somewhat limiting! I have laid out assignments for you, but you might have some other ideas. So what can be done?
You can CREATE YOUR OWN EXTRA CREDIT!
DO YOU QUALIFY FOR THE OPPORTUNITY?
IF ...
You have completed and turned in ALL required projects so far. If you have any missing projects, you must complete those and turn them in BEFORE you will be able to earn extra credit. IF you are not sure if you have missing assignments, you may ask Mr. Alexander at an appropriate time (i.e. before class begins or after class ends, but NOT in the middle of class). Homework assignments cannot be made up, so if you've missed one of those, extra credit is still okay. It's the perfect way to make up those points!
AND
You have already finished at least one extra credit assignment. I need to know that you are serious about this project!
AND
You have completed and turned in an Extra Credit Proposal Form and it has been approved. You must have written approval from Mr. Alexander BEFORE you begin your extra credit assignment - when your proposal is approved, the form will be returned to you. (Click on that link and then press "File" and "Make a copy" in order to have a version of it saved to your Google Drive that you can write on). Be sure that your proposal includes a novel skill! Learn something new! Chances are, if the project you propose is simply a retread of a previous project, it will be denied.
AND
You will complete and turn in your extra credit project(s) on or before the final day to turn in assignments that semester.
THEN ...
YOU ARE ELIGIBLE FOR EXTRA CREDIT!
Simply fill out this form and share it with Mr. Alexander. He will approve or deny your project!
Can I do this extra credit from home?: TOTALLY YES
