APN Weather/Quote of the Day Reporter Duties
You are responsible for writing, producing, and editing two segments: Weather and Quote of the Day. These are informational segments and should be treated as such--there should be very little editorializing that goes into these segments. Each of these segments should be between 30-60 seconds.
I would highly recommend researching/writing/recording the Quote of the Day segment earlier in the week in order to get the most accurate weather closer to the date of delivery.
You are expected to rehearse to deliver your segments in a professional, engaging way. Smiling and using voice inflection are important! Have fun, and remember YOU are the face of JAJHS!
If you would find it useful to know how to make chyrons (your name/title on the screen), please view the tutorial!
WEATHER NOTES:
1. Accurate weather can be found on weather.com. Be sure to look at a 10-Day forecast. Please give a five-day forecast.
2. You can either use the Windows Snipping Tool or the Print Screen tool in order to take a picture of the weather to add to your segment. Alternatively, please use the 5-Day Forecast Generator with our green screen!
3. Add humorous/interesting details to catch the audience’s attention.
If the information is this:
Wednesday is rainy and cool.
Thursday is cloudy.
Friday is cloudy.
Saturday and Sunday are sunny and warm.
Rewrite it with fun/interesting details to make it more interesting:
Anchor 1: Prepare for a rollercoaster of a week! Today, we're in for a rainy day, so I hope you packed your umbrella! Our high today is 47 degrees. Thursday and Friday are going to be cloudy, so bring a light jacket for that crisp fall weather! The weekend's going to be bright and sunny, though, so prepare for a picnic in the park or some outdoor sports. Our high this weekend is seventy. I guess that's just how the weather in Ohio is--if you don't like it, wait for a few hours and it'll be totally different!
NOTE: Read your script aloud (many times!) to correct errors and make sure it sounds GREAT. Is it good enough for APN?
Make sure to practice before filming!
QUOTE OF THE DAY
Your job is to find a famous quote and dissect it!
Go to one of many quote of the day sites and choose a quote. Create an image that displays the quote so that viewers can see it. This image will be left up on the screen for at least 10 seconds while you read the quote so that viewers can process it.
Tell us who said the quote. Then, you're to explain the quote. Why is it powerful? Why is it interesting? If it's a bit cryptic, what does it mean? What relevance does it have to today?
