Certificate of Recognition
For this assignment, students will be creating a certificate of recognition for a historical figure from their social studies curriculum using the new skills learned from Google Docs. Please choose a historical figure you have studied this year and do some research on them before you begin this project. Some suggestions for historical figures you can choose from are: Zeus, Janus, The Egyptian Gods, Hammurabi, Brahmin, Buddha, King Tut, Gilgamesh, Aeneus, Romulus and Remus, Cincinnatus, Cicero, Shi Huangdi, Pericles, Archimedes, Alexander the Great, Solon, Homer, Socrates, Euclid, Julius Caesar, Marcus Junius Brutus, Augustus Octavian, Constantine, Nero, Marcus Aurelius, Justinian, Confucius, Tokugawa Ieyasu, Tamerlane, Akbar, Shah Jahan, and Charlemagne. If you want to choose someone else, simply run it by me and I will allow or disallow it. I will provide you with ways to identify credible websites.
Remember the following well:
This is a Certificate of Recognition! People should be recognized for exemplary things, not simply for the fact that they lived or died. Do not put "He was born in xxxx BC" on your certificate.
Use the internet as a resource, but don't copy and paste straight from the internet. Rephrase things in your own words--otherwise, it's plagiarism!
Requirements:
Your certificate should contain the following elements:
Three fonts (one for the title, one for the bulk of the assignment, and one specifically for the person's name)
Two inserted pictures, wrapped and sized correctly
A numbered list (at least two numbers) about the person's background and what they did while they were alive, and a second numbered list (at least four numbers) about the person's impact on today's society
Underlining, bolding, and italicizing
Landscape format
A table to separate the two sections
Two citations in APA format that explain where you got your additional information (use Easybib!) As a note, you should only have two citations if you got all your information from two websites. Used more than two websites? List more than two websites! And remember, your citations should be in alphabetical order and should include the URL! (Easybib should do all this automatically.)

After these are completed, call Mr. Alexander around to check it. Remember, aside from the APA citations, it all must fit onto one page!
An example of the certificate is here.
Can I do this extra credit from home?: TOTALLY YES
