June 10 - Sadly, today was the last day of QUEST! QUEST was an amazing thing to be a part of. For our last and final day of QUEST, we decided to build rollercoasters and play with the Spheros. All of the rollercoaster designs today were fascinating. It was thrilling to see all of them, and quite cool to see the inversions. Next, we did Spheros. Spheros are cool tiny robots that you get to control with an iPad. Some of them were not working so we had to partner up! We got to change the color of them, and play cool games! It might have been the last day of QUEST, but all in all, it was one of the best ones ever!

May 6 - Quest was very fun and enjoyable today! When we came in, we set off right to work on our morning work which was a sudoku puzzle. We continued to work on our Echos of the Past work and make it our final draft. The people that finished and did Give 3 with a partner got to play “Guess Who?”, “Mancala”, and finish the sudoku for the morning. Some of the class had to leave at 12:45 and 12:55 for our Spring Concert Performance! Even though our time in QUEST was short, all of us were very accomplished!

April 29 - Today we explored three of M.C. Escher's prints - Mobius Strip 2, Reptiles, and Day & Night. We used artistic elements to help us understand what the prints were about. We used a Making Thinking Visible Strategy to help us have small group discussions about the prints. We also worked on our four paragraphs for the Echoes project. Fortnight was the word of the week, meaning 14 consecutive days. Jessie was our book consultant. She present the book Dead Voices.
April 22 - We haven't been consistent in writing. We will try to better. Here are some photos from the last month.
April 8th-Today we worked on our Echoes of The Past projects. Our word of the week was credo, which means set of beliefs. At the end of the day, we worked on a TedEd about graphs, networks, nodes, edges and the eulerian path. There were several solutions and many of us solved it.

February 25 - Today we presented our science projects. Some of them were about the Periodic Table of Elements, Blood Cells, Elementary Particles and some people performed small plays or musicals. Others finished up there projects and will perform them next week. They were all amazing. Today we didn't have a word of the week or book consultant because the projects filled up all of the time. Today was also Ella's birthday. We also had a great halftime show performed by Justin Vener. It was an awesome day.

February 11 - Since today was the QUEST day closest to Valentine's Day, we had a Valentine's Day themed sudoku for morning work. The word of the week was maladroit which means clumsy. Saisha was our book consultant, she presented the book Slacker. Today was the final day to work on and finish our science projects. Lastly, we did magic trash to end our day in QUEST. It was a very fun day in QUEST!
February 4 - Today we started Quest with our morning work. We worked on imagery. Then we worked on habit of mind. Then Lillian was book consultant. She shared the Keepers of the Lost Cities Then we when we worked on our cell organelle project, where we researched to find facts. Finally, we did a Ted Ed riddle. Today was a busy day in Quest!
January/28-Today at QUEST we worked a lot on our poems. In our poems we need to compare animal traits and actions to seasons. We also worked on our organelle project, where we have to research our questions. In addition, today Daisy was book consultant she shared a book called Linked.
January 21- Today at quest was busy day. We did morning work which was adding adjectives and adverbs to a sentence with a simile. We also had book consultant which was Gilbert who told us about Magyk. After that we worked on our poems with an animal and a season. Lastly, we worked on our our projects for the Cells and Smaller. Then we finished up with Last Man Standing. Quest was great today!- Lilah and Ella
January 14 - The word of the week today was Furtive. Today's book consultant was Jessie, and she presented on the book, The Last Mapmaker. We also studied the winter horses some more. We planned to make a poem like that. First, we chose a animal. Then we chose a season. We listed ten or more things about the animal and season. For example spring is really wet. We then finished up the day with an awesome Ted Ed. It was a bridge riddle. Quest was really awesome today! - Katie and JJ
January 7 - Today at QUEST, the word of the week was Palpable and the habit of mind was Thinking about your Thinking. The book consultant was Jesse with the Wings of Fire series. We read a poem called Winter Horses and did a Chalk Talk about the poem. We then read a book called The Universe in You which is a size comparison book. It was so interesting. We wrote interesting facts for the book and everyone on each table passed their paper around so that they could add some facts. QUEST was so fun this week!! - Saisha and Jack
Today is Tuesday, December 17th. The word of the week today is austere. And we had 2 book consultants Daisy and Anna. Daisy presented the book Grounded and Anna presented Explorer's club. The habit of mind was thinking flexibly. We watched a video on the differences and similarities of plant cells and animal cells. After watching the videos we made headlines and subtitles of different plant cells.
December 10 - The word of the week is stolid. It means unemotional. The habit of mind was working as the same mind. This week our book consultant was Lilah. She presented the book Case Closed. Today we made and looked at cheek cells under a microscope. First you had to swab your cheek. That was disgusting! We also stained the cheek cells and recorded what the unstained and stained cheek cells looked like. Some of us was also able to see the nucleus of the cell. - Ella
December 3 - The word of the week is genial. It means kind and jovial. Take it as a complement if someone calls you genial. The Habit of Mind was finding humor in difficult situations. This week Katie was book consultant. Katie presented the book Hooky. Daisy was also book consultant. Daisy presented Amari and the Night Brothers. We looked at onion cells under a microscope. We had to make a wet mount side with and without stain. When we looked at the cells with stain we could see the nucleus of the cell.
November 26 - We finished up our seminar reflections using a Making Thinking Visible routine, Headlines. Then, we had game day. Mrs. McElhinney chose strategy type games. Our favorite were Mancala, Qwirkle, Blockus, and Smart Mouth. Mrs. McElhinney played a few rounds of Mancala and Blockus with us. It was a great day.
November 19 - The word of the week was pervade, meaning to spread throughout. The habit of mind was taking responsible risks. Annie was the book consultant. She presented The Last Gamer Standing. Everyone seemed interested to read it. This week was our Socratic Seminar on Susan B. Anthony's speech. The class had lots to talk about with the great questions we wrote. The moderators, the leader who asks the questions, were Katie and Andrew. They did a great job.
November 12- The week of the word today was lurid, it means sensational. The habit of mind this week was responding with wonderment and awe. We did some very fun activities. We read Susan. B. Anthony's speech after she was arrested. We summarized each paragraph to better understand is. The book consultant was Alex who told us about the book City of Ember. Lastly, We played last man standing.
November 5 - The word of the week was martyr, meaning one who suffers. The Habit of Mind was creating, imaging, and innovating. We had five book consultants! Andrew, Justin, Ella, Jack, and Ryan! We continued working on the Mascot Mystery. We had to figure out what the mystery substance was on the bottom of Mrs. McElhinney's Dragon. It was onion powder!
October 29 - This week's word was abyss, it means bottomless depth. The habit of mind of the week was gathering data through all your senses. We finished up our seminar reflections. The mascot mystery that we are working on in science is almost done. The substances we are looking at through the microscope are salt, sugar, sand, flour, powder, and onion powder. It was alot of fun. We welcomed Gilbert and Ethan to our class!
October 22 - Seminar Day! Today we participated in our seminar based on the books Weslandia, Du Iz Tak?, and The Numberlys. Our Book Consultant was Rafay and he introduced Skandar the Unicorn Thief! Our word of the day was "Articulate" which means to express clearly. Articulation was useful in our Socratic Seminar. QUEST was amazing! - Saisha and Annie!!!!
October 15 The word of the day was tedious, meaning boring. The Habit of Mind we learned about was Listening with Understanding and Empathy. Today we learned about how to use microscopes. Caterina was book consultant with a book called " Front Desk". Today we also made our questions for our Socratic seminar next week. - Alex and Ryan
Today is October 8. The word of the day was sagacity meaning wisdom. Agasti was the book consultant with book 'Midnight at the Barclay Hotel'. We also read a book called Weslandia. We then did a Making Thinking Visible strategy named sentence, phrase, word. We also wrote about the book Weslandia. Finally, we drew pictures of cells. Next week, we get to look at slides under the microscope. - Ella and Andrew
Today is October 1. Today was fantastic in QUEST. today the book consultant was Luca. He told us about two degrees. Today the word of the week was traverse. Traverse, A word meaning to cross. We read a book called to des tack. where there were insects trying to make a fort and many other stuff were happening at the same time. The habit of mind today was asking questions. We did peel the fruit which was where we had to write stuff about the book. we also learned more about the microscopes and how to use them.
September 24 - Today was fantastic in QUEST. Today the book consultant was Lillian. She told us about The Land Of Stories book series. Today the word of the week was Subtle and Pallor. We read a book called The Numberly after reading we thought of a word that relates to the book. We wrote in diffrent colors and wrote about the word we picked. The habit of mind this week was managing impulsivity meaning to think before your actions. We lost some time from the fire drill, but we had enough time for learning about microscopes. September 10 - Today we took a class photo and went outside to play the name game. We played four corners to learn about our classmates. We made license plates to learn about our personalities using encapsulation. Todays word was vulgar meaning common. JJ was our book consultant he presented I Survived The Titanic, he gave it four stars out of five. QUEST is the best class and was fun.
