June 11 - Today was the last quest day! We finished up presenting our main slideshows, finally! After, we built the rollercoasters which was really fun and experimentive, and we played with little robots called Spheros. We spent great quality time together, and we ended on a great last note.

April 2- The Word of the Week was Billow meaning A large sea wave. We worked on writing and finishing taking notes for our American History Projects. The book consultant's were Dean and Violet. Dean presented a book called Moth Keeper, and Violet presented a book called, The Unwanteds.-Addison Braley and Maeve O'Connor
March 12 - The word of the week was sanguinary meaning BLOODY, the fifth-graders were taking their cogat tests , so they missed the whole class... Quinn was the book consultant and she picked a book by Gordan korman called Ungifted. We started researching on our american history projects! -Michael Grandy
-The word of the week in "Concede" meaning surrendering or admitting defeat. Today we started presenting and finished presenting projects A. We presented skits, fortune tellers, days in the life, headlines, playing cards, game shows, and comics. Everybody learned about organelles, the Periodic Table, atoms, electrons, protons, and elementary particles. We had 9 groups present today. We watched a video called "Can You Solve The Animal Riddle." This time nobody solved the riddle. -Ethan Mendoza and Calla Koon
February 12 - The word of the week was Maladroit meaning clumsy or bungling. The book consultant, was Joey, he picked a book about star wars called "Boba Fett" Basically the whole day we spent working and researching our Cells and Smaller projects! -Emma H

January 22 - The word of the week was, circumvent, or to get around. Today we started our Winter Horses project poems. We were even able to start the research for our Cells and Smaller project. This week's book consultant was Ethan, and he presented the book, Magic Treehouse Super Edition (Book 1). Calla and Peter
January 15 - The word of the week was Furtive, stealthy, the habit of mind was thinking claritively. Today Lucy was book consultant, her book was " The Babysitters club," We started working on our poems for "The Winter Horses" , and we also started a new project where we have to study things about microbiology.
January 8 - The word of the day was palpable meaning touchable. The habit of mind was thinking about your thinking or metacognition. Today Ben was book consultant. He shared the book Dog Man. We read a book called The Universe Inside You. while reading the book we learned about the smallest parts of our body. The smallest thing is elementary particles. We read a poem called Winter Horses. We did a project and got into groups and rotated from table to table and commented on everyone's perspective on the poem. Joel and Joey
December 18 - Today is Tuesday, December 17th. The word of the week today is austere. The book consultant was Amelia. She shared the book, The Lost Library. It is a battle of books, book. The habit of mind was thinking flexibly. We watched a video on the differences and similarities of plant cells and animal cells. After watching the videos we made headlines and subtitles of different plant cells. The headlines were really detailed and awesome.
December 11 - Today we looked at cheek cells. They were so small! We were able to see the nucleus in the cells once we stained them. We had to wick the stain of the slide, from under the cover slip. It was very satisfying to watch the stain get sucked up into the paper towel. The word of the day was stolid meaning unemotional. The Habit of Mind was Thinking Interdependently. Calla was our book consultant. She presented Calvin and Hobbs comic books.
December 4 - The word of the day was genial meaning good natured, jovial, and kind. The Habit of Mind was finding humor in difficult situations. We looked at onion cells under a microscope. We had to make a wet mount side with and without stain. When we looked at the cells with stain we could see the nucleus of the cell. The book consultant was Emma Hughes. Emma presented the Comic Series, Fox Trot. Emma is the first student to choose a comic book for book consultant.
November 27 - Thanksgiving Break
November 20 - The word of the day is pervade meaning to spread throughout. The Habit of Mind was taking responsible risks. Peter was book consultant, he presented his favorite book about a cat who gets a new chance at life. Today was our Socratic Seminar about Susan B. Anthony's persuasive speech. Jane and Violet were the moderators, the leaders who ask the questions. They did a great job.
November 13 - The word of the day was lurid meaning horrible and gruesome details. The Habit of Mind was responding with wonderment and awe. Lucy was the book consultant and she gave five stars to The Baby Sitter's Club. We spent the day writing questions for the Socratic Seminar we are having next week.
November 6 - The word of the day was martyr meaning one who suffers. The Habit of Mind was creating, imaging, and innovating. Today we finished the Mascot Mystery by figuring what substance was on the mascot. It was onion powder. Salt and sugar were the best substance to look at under the microscope.
October 30 - The word of the day was abyss meaning bottomless depth. The habit of mind was gathering data through all senses. Today we started the second seminar of the year. We are using Susan B. Anthony's speech when she was released from jail for voting. The primary document was hard to read. It was challenging. Then we worked on the mascot mystery for science. We looked at sand, salt, sugar, flour, onion powder, and powder under the microscope.
October 23, 2024 The word of the day was articulate meaning to express clearly. Today the book consultant was Anna, she presented a book called Twin Daggers the first book of a two book series. Today we used microscopes to identify particles to solve a case, we also learned how to use tape to create a slide. We LOVED it!
October 16 The word of the day was tedious, meaning boring. Olivia was our book consultant. She presented Tenny, a book from the American Girl Series. Today was our Socratic Seminar on Change! It was fun!
October 9 - The Habit of Mind for the week was Listening with Empathy and Understanding. The word of the day was sagacity, meaning wisdom. Mikey was the book consultant and highly recommended his frightening book series. Today we created questions for our Socratic Seminar next week. We used the Making Thinking Visible strategy, Question Sorts. We finally got to look at slides under the MICROSCOPES! It was super cool! Awesome! Focusing could be hard, but we loved the microscopes!
October 2 - Today in QUEST we read Weslandia. Weslandia is about a boy who gets bullied in school, but makes a very cool summer civilization. We practiced drawing cells under a microscope. We played a get to know you game called Last Man Standing. Today our book consultant was Michael and he told us about Baily's Story a Dog's Purpose story. The habit of mind was Striving for Accuracy. The word of the day was traverse, meaning to cross.
September 25 - September 25 - Today in QUEST, we watched a video from the Amoeba Sisters all about microscopes and took notes on it. Our book consultant today was Teddy. His book was the first in the Wingfeather Saga. We read the book Du Iz Tak? We made index cards today for Last Man Standing. Today was a very fascinating day, with tons of fun! Anna
September 18- We read and analyzed the book The Numberlys using the Making Thinking Visible strategy Making Meaning. The habit of mind was managing impulsivity. Today we learned about microscopes and how they work. We learned the parts and the do's and don'ts of using a microscope. The word of the day is pallor which means, the gray face of someone is sick weak or afraid. QUEST is currently going great for the second day we all came we worked quickly and quietly. Annalise presented the book Ben Yokoyama and the Cookie of Perfection. Jane was consultant for the book The Mysterious Benedict Society.
September 11 - We made licenses plates that encapsulate who we are. We played four corners to find out about our classmates. We were introduced to QUEST routines and what we do. The Habit of Mind was persisting. The word of the week is vulgar means common. Quest is off to a great start.
