Today is another day of Karigon Quest. First, we started the day off with 15 minutes of self read. Then, Casey shared her book, The tale of Beetle the Bug, a Harry Potter themed story. Next, we did another Seminar, this time with zoos and sail drones. After that, we met up with our partners and wrote in the boxes what had to be filled in. Finally, at the end, we worked on building cubes(Which is really, really, hard!). That was your weekly Quest news. Signing off!

Today is May 10, and the word of the week was abate which means to lessen or to subtract. Today we spent almost all of QUEST working with tiny robots called BOLTS. We went out into the hallway and did an obstacle course. Mrs. McElhinney ended up asking us if we wanted to play with and help the kindergarteners. We partnered up with the kids and help them with the bolts . At the end of the day we read The Book Of Three and we only have 18 pages left! By Abia

Today, QUEST was really fun! Here's what we did. When we came in, after we read for a little while, Kayla shared the "Harry Potter book 3." After book consultant we did the word of the week. It was "venerate" which means "to respect." Then we spent so long on the seminar articles. We read them and then we answered the questions for it. Once we finished it, we got to individually work on creating 3 x 3 cubes. Soon after, we read "The Book of Three." We have only 3 chapters left. We are planning with groups to make a Ferris wheel. Now we are packing up to leave. So that was our QUEST day.

Today in Quest we did so much stuff! To start off the day, Tyler was book consultant. He shared with the class the book "Cat Kid Comic Club". The word of the week was languor, which means, weak, weary, tired, or droopy. We read the book "Mr. Ferris and His Wheel, because we are starting a new project. We will be building our own Ferris wheels, and they have to run on wind. We finished off the day by reading our read aloud book, "The Book of Three", by Lloyd Alexander. Quest was a very fun day, as always!

4/12/22 Today was so much fun! This was the day we have all been waiting for because it was building day. We fixed the method that we used last week instead of using jelly beans, we used 25 packing peanuts which worked much better. We used the fan to test how sturdy it is. Mrs. McElhinney said we didn't have to make it a certian height and thickness. The word of the week this week was serene which means calm or peaceful. After that we read The Book of Three . 4/5/2022 Today in QUEST we took out our Think Like an Engineer packet and started planning out ideas for our build. Andrew was book consultant and shared the book Escape. We had a tragically, epic fail with the building for Amazon, photos below. We had 1 hour to do the sketching, modeling, and building. The materials failed us. Then, we read The Book of Three and added a new character and setting to our mind maps. Finally, we had ten minutes of independent reading at the end of our QUEST day.

3/29/22 Today we had a very busy day in Quest. We started with a free read for 15 minutes. Today, the word of the day was Acute, It means sharp and an angle less then 90 degrees. Started writing our poems with personification. I did a sweatshirt Tyler did a dog. Next we planed for a building challenge. We can only use 100 toothpicks and 50 jellybeans. It must have a stable structure for gusts of wind and the footprint must be small. Although it must be tall and skinny. That was our fabulous fun filled day at Quest. Casey and Tyler
3/22/22 The word of the week was grotesque. It means distorted, or very bad looking. Today's book consultant was Ryan he presented the book the hidden oracle by rick riordan. We brainstormed for the poem that we are writing and came up with some great details using personification. WE also got into pairs and worked on our engineering . We are learning about different types of engineers such as biomedical and civil engineers.

3/15/22 The word of the week was odious this word means hate or showing hate. Today's book consultant was Sami and her book was I Survived the Battle of D-day. We also built towers of paper cards to hold an amount of weight. One of them could actually hold Casey for 10 seconds! We also talked about the engineering design process and watched a video showing it's a lot like hosting a party. One of the last things we did was decoded a poem titled Grapefruit. After this we looked at some other poems and rated them. By : Abia , Andrew
Building the first challenge!
3/8/22 Today was fun. Here is what we did. When we walked in, we read our books for about 20 minutes, then we got right into the word of the day. It was "sublime!" Sublime means lofty, exalted, inspiring, or grand. Then, after that, Joey, the book consultant for today, shared with us about a book called "Legend." Next, we read a story entitled "Whoosh! Lonnie Johnson's Super Soaking Stream of Inventions". Then we answered some questions about challenges we face which was connected to the book. Then we met up with partners and did a Habits of Mind chart with each other then presented it in front of the class. Finally, we did another thing related to the Grapefruit poem passage.

3/1/22 This week, we started off with the word of the day, Vex, which means trouble or difficulty. Julianne was book consultant, and she told us about The Boy on the Porch. Next, we worked on are "Think Like an Engineer" packet. Finally, we listened to The Book of Three and wrote our weekly reflection.

2/15/22 Today was a fun day for us in Quest. We stared off with our normal routine which was reading books. Next we finished or practiced for our final presentation about the IR. After that we presented our IR project that we've ben working on for 7 weeks.. While we were doing that we had our snack. Then we read the Book of Three . Then we will pack up and head on the bus. That was our fun filled day at QUEST.

1/25/22 First, when we walked in today, we did the word of the week, which was "Din". Then after that, Joey was the book consultant, and he introduced us to the book "Divergent". It was an adventurous book. Once he did that we did a seminar. It was pretty fun. The 2 different topics that we talked about were about how climate is affecting sports, and how regular people and kids can become citizen scientists and help save animals from extinction, like the Rufa Red Knot. At the end, we read "The Book of Three". Then, we worked on some fun sudoku puzzles. So that was our amazing day!! By: Marina and Kayla
1/18/22 The word of the week is tremulous and it means quivering or nervous. The book consultant this week was Casey and she shared the book "Guts." Our habit of mind today was finding humor. After that we got into socratic seminar. We read chapter 10 in "The Book Of Three". We worked on our industrial revolution projects. That was our day!

1/4/22 Today we worked on our industrial revolution projects. We started researching our topics. We had 2 book consultants, Sami and Abia. Sami told us about Clawde Enemies, while Abia told us about Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Cabin Fever. Our Habit of Mind today was Responding with Wonderment and Awe. Our word was profound, which means deep. We worked on our socratic seminars, which were about two different articles.

COUNTENANCE MEANS FACIAL EXPRESSION. fOR THE BOOK CONSULTANT FOR THIS, WEEK tYLER SHOWED US THE GRAPHIC NOVEL, tHE WINGS OF FIRE. wE PLAYED THE GAME CHALLENGE 24 . mR.pACE, THE TESAGO PRINCIPAL, CAME IN TODAY AND WATCHED US WORK. wE TALKED ABOUT THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX. we also made up decisions and outcomes with the article sad hearts, it was about native americans and their struggles throughout the industrial revolution. Today was also tyler's birthday.

12/7/2021 First, let's start with the word of the day, Repose. Repose means resting. For book consultant, Cara shared a book called Lilly's Story. This was the first day of switching people for job rotations. We had paper set up around the room with topics based on the Industrial Revolution and bullet pointed ideas that went with the topic. We partnered up and gave questions about the topics. To end today, we read a chapter ofThe Book of Three and made Character/Setting analogies with multiple partners.

11/30/21 11/30/21 First, it is Tenny's birthday today. He is a birthday journalist. Today we talked about the poem, I Hear America Singing. We had our first seminar about the poem. A seminar is when we sit in a circle and have a discussion about the topic. We had partners watching us while we were having the seminar. The outside circle took notes on how often the inside/talking circle spoke, invited other to speak, and if we used scholarly language. We swapped spots so each person could talk and watch their partner. We really liked the seminar. Julianne and Tenny
11/23/21 Today we finished our notes on the Industrial Revolution. We were able to read another chapter in The Book of Three. We also began to organize our class library! There are tons of books to sorts. Mrs. McElhinney really likes books, especially fantasy.
11/16/2021 This week Sami was the book consultant. She did the I Survived the Revolutionary War book. The word of the week was amiable. We filled in the Industrial Revolution google slide that asked us our questions, facts, feelings and connections. We learned about deep questions and shallow questions. 11/02/21 This week Julianne and Olivia were the book consultants. Olivia did Wings of Fire, The Lost Air. Julianne did Because of Winn-Dixie.We worked on our mind maps for the Book of Three. Today is 10/26/21 This week we finished our Creative letters. We selected partners by finding matching paper slips of scientists and their inventions. Then we made posters about a question for systems. We did a short read aloud of The Book Of Three. Today is 10/19/2021. First, we shared examples of Habits of Mind and we made a chart about systems. The word of the day was clamor. We read more of The Book of Three. We learned about two new characters Medwyn and Gwyn the hunter we also learned about the Proud Walkers. We tried to demonstrate a random Habit of Mind with our groups for others to guess what Habit of Mind we were acting out. We watched a video about the Industrial Revolution and it explained what happened back then, what we were like, and we thought about what happened back then. By Andrew and Cara
10/12/21 Today, our book consultant, David, shared with us the book "Wings of Fire". Then, Mrs. McElhinney talked to us about the word of the week, which is "Eccentric". Then. she talked to us about our habits of mind which today, was listening with empathy and understanding. That means listening to people even if you disagree with them, and using whole body language. One of the slides during habits of mind was about "Quality and Quantity". Then, we looked at a picture of a job advertisement, and we had to read it and infer what was happening. Then we shared our thoughts about it. Next, we had read a loud, where Mrs. McElhinney read us "The Book of Thee" while we had snack. Then, since it was Casey's birthday, her dad brought in ice cream for our class. Next, we worked on our mind map by adding some more evil characters, and adding some settings. Then, we did our letters, where we turn the first initial of our name into some sort of picture. 10/05/21 Today Joey shared about The City of Ember. The word of the week is magnanimous. Kayla joined our class today! We read the Book of Three and met the character Gurgi. 09/28/21 Today we learned about Christo and the gates he made in New York City. We also learned about Gwydian, in The Book Of Three. We also wrote in our Mind Map about The Book of Three. Our Book consultant this week was Joey. He told us about the Wings Of Fire series. The word of the week was wistful. We also talked about different systems and how they work. September 21, 2021 Today in QUEST Andrew shared his book The One and Only Ivan. The word of the week is undulate and Lucas did the worm to show us what the word means. Today is September 14, 2021. Today in QUEST we began our fantasy read aloud, The Book of Three. We wrote fun facts about ourselves and shared them with a buddy. We got to learn about our classmates. We got to find partners using animals sounds. We all decided to come back next week.
