December 1- Today in QUEST we put lights on our skyscraper structures! The word of the day was sublime, and the book consultant was Willow. Willow presented a Wings of Fire book. The habit of mind today was gathering data with all five senses . Also, we did a mini Socratic seminar on the reflections of lighting up our structures.
November 24 - Today in QUEST we planned out where the lights on our sculptures would go, and if it would work. We didn't have a word of the day today, and we forgot to do book consultant. We did last man standing, a game where we give clues about somebody and the person who is standing last is the person. We each made the card about us at the beginning of QUEST. The person who was it first was Olive. The second person was willow. Third person was Anna. Fourth was Trey. Fifth was Mrs. McElhinney. Last person was Henry. Have a great Thanksgiving!
November 17 - The word of the day was livid, meaning furiously angry. Diego was book consultant and he presented the Spy School Series by Stuart Gibbs. The habit of mind for the day was thinking and communicating with precision and accuracy. Today we explored how to make a circuit. Mrs. McElhinney just put materials out on the back counter and we had to make a light bulb, light up. It was so much fun!
November 10 - Anna was book consultant. She presented Rain Reign. It sounds like a great book. We did Chalk Talk on the book Energy Island. The habit of mind today was applying past knowledge to new situations. The word of the day was profound meaning deep. We also prepared for the Socratic seminar by beginning to read our article.
November 3 - There wasn't a book consultant or word of the day due to our STEM build. Today we spent the entire QUEST day building our toothpick and biodegradable foam peanut structure. It was so much fun! Below are links to the videos of the wind test.
October 27 - The word of the week was acute, meaning sharp. The habit of mind was thinking about your thinking or metacognition. The book consultant was Kate. She presented Making Friends. We planed for our project that is to make a "skyscraper" out of 50 packing peanuts and 100 toothpicks. We tested and made designs on a planning paper in our "Think Like An Engineer" Once we had our designs all made we voted on what one to do. We will do our finale designs next Monday.
October 20, The word of the week was din and visage. The habit of mind was Thinking Flexibly. The book consultant was Husain. He presented a Geronimo Stilton book. We also had a seminar about the text Sense of a Goose. Diego and Lillian were the moderators of the seminar. Towards the end of the day we played 24 which is a math game. - Emma and Trey

October 6 - The word of the week was allude, meaning indirectly referring to. The habit of mind was listening with understanding and empathy. We finished our Sentence, Phrase, Word making thinking visible Sentence of a Goose. We also got to play with the materials for our next STEM project. Biodegradable foam peanuts get slimy when wet.
September 29 - Today we started the day with looking at the habit of mind. It was striving for accuracy. Then we shared the word of the day, magnanimous, meaning generous spirit. Also we did an activity were we had 50 cards to make a tower and we had to make it as tall as we can. We also had to support a load (AKA an eraser box). it was fun. We had a great day!
September 22 - The habit of mind for the day is Questioning and Posing Problems. The word of the day is wistful, meaning having sadness or a pensive mood centered on something good in the past. The book consultant was Henry. We read the book Lonnie Johnson and his Super Soaker. We read the Sense of a goose, the short essay we are reading for Socratic seminar.
September 15 - Today in QUEST we learned many things! The word of the day was melancholy meaning sad. The habit of mind was managing impulsivity. We learned about the Strandbeesten and its history. We learned about the types and definition of engineers. It was a good day in QUEST.
September 8 - Today was the first day of QUEST. We learned about unity and dignity doing the mirror act and the tarp challenge. We laughed a lot! We went over the basic rules and the routine of QUEST. The word of the week is exquisite and the habit of mind was persist.We learned about the morning work. We seemed to eat a lot today. We played four corners to get to know about our classmates. We learned about employment opportunities in QUEST. The first day was brilliant.
