Today is September 14, 2021. Today we did a lot of things. We got to write about ourselves. We shared what we learned about ourselves with a friend. We learned all about Mrs. McElhinney.
September 21, 2021 Today we did a lot of things! We saw pictures about thinking before our actions. There were pictures like a cat looking at a fish. We also watched a video about a picture book. The book was called Zoom. We watched Zoom because it explains Systems. We grouped up in teams of 3 and tried explaining systems. Lastly, Mrs.McElhinney read us The Book of Three. That is what we did in QUEST today! Written by Jim and Matthew

11/23/21 Today we finished our notes on the Industrial Revolution. We were able to read another chapter in The Book of Three. We also began to organize our class library! There are tons of books to sorts. Mrs. McElhinney really likes books, especially fantasy.
11/30/21 Today we talked about the poem, I Hear America Singing. We had our first seminar about the poem. A seminar is when we sit in a circle and have a discussion about the topic. We had partners watching us while we were having the seminar. The outside circle took notes on how often the inside/talking circle spoke, invited other to speak, and if we used scholarly language. We swapped spots so each person could talk and watch their partner. We really liked the seminar.
12/07/21 We first wrote topics about the Industrial Revolution. We went to 11 different stations to brainstorm ideas about each topic and we wrote them down. After that, we chose a topic and wrote three or more facts about it for our Industrial Revolution Project. Then, we talked about The Book Of Three characters and what they would be compared to, analogies. Finally, we did the weekly reflection. Ethan and Jason Xu
12/14/21 Today in QUEST we came up with ideas for our Industrial Revolution project and we created Decisions and Outcomes, too. We also continued to read The Book of Three. We worked on our mind maps for the Book of Three. We added a lot!
12/21/21 Today we did a lot of fun things. In the morning, we did some humorous Habits of Mind skits. First, we played Sudoku. Then we did a Challenge 24 tournament and we made it to the quarterfinals before we had to stop. Even though we did a lot of things, we missed The Book of Three read-aloud and the Breathing Guide. Written by Ben Stevens and Celina Yin
1/4/2022. In the beginning of class, we voted for our Socratic Seminar topic. The topics were the Afghanistan and the animal extinction. We partnered up and wrote on the " I Say You Say Statement Page." Near the end of the day, we started the research project on topics of the Industrial Revolution. -Izzy and Claire
1/10/22 First we did the word of the week, which was livid, meaning furiously angry. Then, we filled out a blue sheet about an article we are doing for the Socratic Seminar. After that, Mrs McElhinney read us a chapter from the Book of Three. Lastly, we worked on our Industrial Revolution research project. The day ended with a Mumball game. - CZ and IT
1/18/22 Okay, so first we read The Book of Three (Gee-Gurgi!), then we did the Socratic Seminar which is, in a word AWESOME!, Our discussion was 20 minutes, that passed by with ease. After that we did a few minutes of IR research. Oh, almost forgot, our Habit of Mind was finding humor, and our word of the day was tremulous. -Derek
1/25/22 First, we did our February Socratic Seminar vote. At the end, we resulted with the NOAA and Opinion writing about zoos as our articles for the next seminar. After that, we did Breathing Guide and Book of Three. We spent the remainder of class doing Industrial Revolution research. Written by Celina and Ethan :)
2/1/22
To begin, the teacher read us the Book Of Three. Then, we added new information to The Book Of Three mind map. At the end, we worked on our research projects about the Industrial Revolution. As usual, the day ended with an intense Mumball game!!

2/15/22 Today, some of us got time to present some of our IR projects. After that, the class used soma cubes to play with. They were really hard! Jason Li got the most cubes. He put together about 6! We checked to see who was ready to present their projects. Some of us got to present and some did not. If a partner was absent, that group will present after break. WE did a reflection on our projects. We played with soma cubes. -Andrew and Izzy
3/1/2022 Today, we finished presenting our presentations and writing compliments. We also worked on the packet "Thinking Like an Engineer". In "Thinking Like an Engineer", we drew pictures of engineers hard at work with their tools and the environment around them.- William & Braden
3/8/22 Today in Quest we finished our drawing of our engineer in the packet, "Thinking like an Engineer" . Then, we compared our engineering illustrations with a chart. After we were done comparing illustrations we worked on the Grapefruit packet. In the packet, "Grapefruit" we talked about the characteristics of a grapefruit and also about the poem. Finally, we did our reflection, breathing guide and we read the Book of Three. -Braden & Yi-Wern
3/15/22 To begin, we talked about the Habits of Mind of an engineer. We also found partners using books and characters. We took away the personification and adjectives for the Grapefruit poem, which was pretty fun. The day ended with the read-aloud of The Book Of Three and exciting puzzles.

3/22/22 First, we did the word of the day, which was grotesque. It means distorted. After that, we brainstormed ideas for poems we will be writing soon. Then, we built building out of 50 index cards each. In the end, the tower was supposed to be able to hold up a weight on Mrs. McElhinney's desk. After testing them out, we rated ourselves on the process. The record was 18.5 inches. (Team ANGRY) Then, the day was over and we went home!
-Teju & Allison
3/29/22 Today, we came in and had some reading time, before we did a project on engineers. We split up into groups and each made a google slide about a type of engineer. We will be presenting them next week. After that, we worked on our rough draft of our poems, with each of us having an item as a topic. It was a pretty fun day, and both projects made 2 hours feel like 30 minutes.

AT the beginning of class, we read a chapter or so of The Book of Three, not really eventful. Then, Mrs. McElhinney explained the directions for today's roller coaster/marble run build. My group (Celina/me, Abbey, Alyssa, and Ethan) made a long one, and it was exquisite( when it worked, anyway). My group (Vivikta/me, Teju, Henry, and Izzy) made an intricate roller coaster that wrapped around Sharon, and had a loop in it. Both of our groups made a small tunnel. Check out the photos and videos below.
