May 29th 2024: Today we finished up our PSA's, along with a lovely morning warmup. our book consultant was Evan Dipaula, and he showed us a book called "Save Me A Seat". (It was wonderful). -Logan Browan, and John Pickett.
May 22 - Today John Picket was our book consultant. All we did was work on our PSA scripts for our presentation. We are almost done! The word of the week was visage.
April 17 2024: Todays book consultant was Alex, he suggested a book called Camp Murderface. This week's word was Undulate. Undulate means move in a wave like pattern. Today we also wrote our script for our PSA. Most groups finished which means we can start our presentation early next week. - Craig D and John M
Today was April 10th and everyone was excited for school to start up again after break and you know what that means, Quest! Today, Gurteg Singh reintroduced the Magic Treehouse series to the quest classroom. After he was done presenting with the books we learned about our word of the week, conjecture. After that, we started planning out our PSA report today and made a rough draft of our final script and what we should include in it. Over all it was a fun and accomplished day and I hope it stays that way forever! - Evan DiPaola
March 27 - Today we worked on our research, first thing, to finish the World Issue Projects there was no warm up, book consultant, or literacy words because of the research. -Alex
March 20 - Today is March 20, 2024 and we started the day with our morning warm up and our word of the day which was tremulous. Tremulous is a synonym for quivering. Logan was the book consultant and he talked about When The Mountain Meets The Moon. Today, we researched about our world issue project. For a brain break we played the floor is lava and danced. -Kaine and Gurteg
Today is March 13 2024. QUEST was a questtaculas day! We are slowly starting our research for a PSA and we learned how to cite websites. The book consultant postponed because he was not ready. The word of the week was Serene, meaning calm. Next week is all research!
Today is Wednesday, March 6, 2024. QUEST was spectacular today. Micah was book consultant and shared about the book Just Roll With It. She rated it 10 out of 10. The word of the week was singular. We also did five or six cards of Last One Standing. We did our world issues project and created three of our questions, and we did our reflections on them. Alex showed off his incredible Moonwalking skills. There is a video below.

February 28
Today we started off with book consultant. Ashira presented the book Roller Girl. Some of the kids in our class had a Socratic seminar and they talked about water poisoning in Flint, Michigan. After that, we made groups for our world issues project. We also tried to come up with some ideas for our project. We ended with deciding our final topic that we were going to research for our world issues project. Kaine and Chloe
February 14 - We are almost done with our poems! Some students still have finishing touches to put on their poems because they were out sick. Half of our group has completed Socratic Seminar, the rest will finish the seminar when we get back from break. Craig Decker and Leo were book consultants. We have finished learning about all 16 Habits of Mind.
Today is January 17th, 2024 . In Quest our book consultant was Chloe. She presented Dumpling Days by Grace Lin. The word of the week is tangible. The Habit of mind was Finding Humor. We learned about how to right a good poem with imagery. We started to write stanzas and tried to put in imagery and symbolism. It was a good day.
Logan was our book consultant. He presented the Who Is... series. The word of the week was manifest meaning obvious. The Habit of Mind we learned about was Taking Responsible Risks. We all learned about issues in the world (according to the UN), and why they were they happening. We then did a chart about the problems around the globe. After that Ms. McElhinney told us us a story about one of the problems she had to show her connection. It was a good day.
This remarkable Quest group demonstrated their ability to persevere as they brainstormed ideas for their creative poems. Kelemen also shared with us the book My Life as a Book. We also watched the read-aloud of The Water Princess and realized how hard it was to make a startlingly long journey to get a simple pot of water.

Today on this beautiful Wednesday, Cadence showed us the book Allergic, and Kahini showed us the book Abducted. We also made really cool drawings with the first letter of our name. Next, we made a huge yarn spiderweb, and put Mrs. McElhinney's ring through it kind of like a maze! After that we did our first Ted ED of the year, it was where we had to make acute triangles to destroy a monster. We got lifesavers for being lifesavers. Lastly to wrap up the day, we did a big mancala tournament. Today's QUEST was awesome.

December 13 - Today we didn't have a word of the day or book consultant, instead we built our Ferris wheels. Every wheel worked and spun with a passenger (Lego mini figure) and most having a mechanical brake. Check out the videos below.
December 6 - The word of the day was din. Our book consultant was Kaine who was absent today, so Evan D presented Wild Robot by Peter Brown.
The Habit of mind was Creating, Imagining and Innovating. We started planning our Ferris Wheels:). We can't wait to build them next week!
November 29 - The word of the day was allude. John was our book consultant. He presented the book Spaced Out by Stuart Gibbs. The Habit of Mind we learned about was Gathering Information Through our Senses. Our next STEM challenge will be mechanical engineering. We are going to build a functioning Ferris Wheel. We listened to a picture book about the first Ferris Wheel, Mr. Ferris and his Wheel.
Today is Wednesday, November 15. QUEST was frustrating and awesome all at the same time. This weeks word was amiable which means friendly. John presented a book about The Best Boys Book to World War I. Today we lit up our structures! It was great creating a parallel circuit that made our structures glow, but it was also very frustrating trying to get the circuit to stay together. We did it!
Today is Wednesday, November 8, 2023. QUEST was super exciting today! Alex was book consultant and presented the book Thunder Rolling in The Mountains. The word of the week was wistful. The habit of mind was applying past knowledge to new situations. We were able to learn all about the poem, "The Moon." We reflected on the poem using three different questions, making a poster. We planned out our ideas for the electric city build next week. Lingyi and John M.
Today is Wednesday November 1, 2023. The word of the week is prodigious, it means huge or big. The book consultant was Robert he shared The Heroes of Olympia. Today we played around with circuits (safely). We are getting ready for our electrical engineering challenge. ~Safa and John P.
Today is Wednesday October 25, 2023.The word of the week was countenance which means your facial expression. The book consultant was Gurteg he shared I Survived the attack of the Grizzlies. Today, we made towers out of toothpicks and Packing Peanuts and we made a mess. We had to build the tallest tower making sure that it could withstand wind gusts from a fan.

Today is Wednesday October 18, 2023. The word of the week was clamor meaning an outcry. The book consultant was Nandika and she presented the book The One and Only Ivan. The habit of mind we learned today was thinking flexibly. Today we did a civil engineering challenge and we used packing peanuts and toothpicks to make a plan on how to build the final building.
October 4 Today the word of the week as livid, which means really, super angry. The book consultant was Lingyi, she told us about Harry Potter. The habit of mind was questioning and posing problems. We wrote and sorted questions for our Socratic Seminars next week. Finally, we had our first STEM challenge, to build the tallest structure as possible out of index card. The catch was it needed to support a four pound weight. So far, Skano has the record tallest structure at 21 inches. Go Skanoians!

Today is September 27. The book consultant was Safa. She presented A Tale of Magic. The word of the week was profound, it means deep. The habit of mind we learned about was to Strive for Accuracy. John P. and Julie W.
Today is Wednesday, September 20 2023. Evan Zhan was our book consultant and he presented Warriors. The word of the week was Melancholy which means sad. The Habit Of Mind was Managing Impulsivity. We also looked at these really cool contraptions called Strandbeesten that were big wood contraptions made of big toothpick looking wood. We learned about lots of different types of engineering too! - Alex
September 13 - Today in QUEST we did a tarp challenge. We were on a tarp and had to flip the tarp over without our classmates getting off the tarp. There are photos below. We spent some time going over QUEST expectations. We also talked about what the year would be like in QUEST. We played a question game named four corners. We worked on a problem solving using deductive reasoning. We learned about dignity and respect. We read a book, Ten Birds that is all about dignity. We all will be returning to QUEST next week.
