June 12 - Today is the last day of Q.U.E.S.T! All the 5th graders will sure miss Mrs. McElhinney and Q.U.E.S.T. We did marble roller coasters and Spheros. It was a fun last day. Sadly, we will not be able to write next week. Goodbye Q.U.E.S.T!!!!!!! - Eloise Deimling

March 27- Today we mostly focused on researching for the Historical Project, Echoes of Our Past. The word of the day was Dormant, which means to be inactive. We went outside for recess, and it was a nice day.

March 13 - Today we worked on a Historical project and researched on our subject. Jema was our book consultant and she picked the book The Last Gamer Standing. Our word of the day was sanguinary and we also got our new job sheet for the classroom. Our riddle today was about pearls in an fantasy city with monsters.

February 27 - Today we did our finishing touches on our science project and then presented it afterward. The main topics that most people chose were DNA, Elementary particles, and the periodic table. The word of the day was concede, meaning to surrender or admit defeat, but we didn't do Word of the Day today. We also didn't do book consultant either, because we were focused on our projects the whole day. Everyone did a great job! -Milo and Mia
February 13 - We had a small mishap and somehow lost the journalist's report. The word of the day was maladroit meaning bungling or clumsy. We worked on our Cells and Smaller project for the entire day!
SNOW DAY
January 30 - Today we did the same thing we did last week with taking boring sentences and make them full of imagery. We had a choice of making basic sentences for a cat, flowers, and a toadstool. We then made sentences and progressively made them more detailed. The book consultant today was Maddie she showed a graphic novel memoir called "The Tryout" by Christina Soontornvat. The habit of mind today was Applying Past Knowledge to New Situations. We also finished writing and typing our poems comparing an animal and a season. -Enjema Tabe and Evan Connell

January 16 Today we started our projects on what we learned in The Universe In You. The habits of mind today was communicating with clarity and precision, which means speaking clearly and without exaggeration. The word of the day was furtive, which means to be sneaky or stealthy. We also watched a riddle called The Bridge Riddle. The book consultant was Eloise and she chose the book Grounded. We also did a poem called Winter Horses, and started coming up with ideas for our own poems. - Nathan and Haitham

Today we read the poem Winter Horses and did chalk talk about similes and metaphors. The Habits of Mind was Thinking About Your Thinking. Our word of the week/day was palpable which means touchable. The book consultant was Logan and he shared the book I Survived The Destruction of Pompei. We also read the book The Universe Inside You. It was about the smallest things in the world which included cells, atoms, and other things in your body. ~ Angelina and Ruby
January 2 - Happy New Years!
Today we finally were able to look at cheek cells under the microscope. They were super small. When we added stain to the cells, you could see them so much better. We even saw the nucleus in the cheek cell. We watched two videos on the differences and similarities of animal and plant cells. One was an Amoeba Sisters video.
December 19 - Today was an adventure! There wasn't power at Tesago. We had an incredible games day! We played strategy games like Mancala, Blockus, Qwirkle, and Smart Mouth. It was a lot of fun!
December 12 Today was great! We had lots of fun looking at onion cells under the microscope. We looked at blue stained cells and saw the nucleus of the cell. We saw the cell wall too. The word of the day was stolid, meaning unemotional and genial meaning kind. The habits of mind were finding humor in difficult situations and thinking interdependently. It was a fun day in QUEST.

November 21 The word of the day is pervade meaning to spread throughout. The Habit of Mind was taking responsible risks. Today was our Socratic Seminar about Susan B. Anthony's persuasive speech. Eloise and Haitham were the moderators, the leaders who ask the questions at seminar. They did a great job. We also did a processing activity called Headlines.
November 14 - The word of the day was martyr meaning one who suffers. The Habit of Mind was creating, imaging, and innovating. Today we finished the Mascot Mystery by figuring what substance was on the mascot. It was onion powder. Salt and sugar were the best substance to look at under the microscope. Monvitha was the book consultant. She recommended giving the Babysitter's Club a try. Five stars!
November 7 - We are using Susan B. Anthony's speech when she was released from jail for voting. The primary document was hard to read. It was challenging. Then we worked on the mascot mystery for science. We looked at sand, salt, sugar, flour, onion powder, and powder under the microscope.
No QUEST - Halloween
October 17 - Today Aiden was book consultant. He presented a science fiction/fantasy book, Ender's Game. The word of the week was tedious, meaning boring. The habit of mind was Listening with Understanding and Empathy. We created questions for the Seminar next week. Then, we finally got to use the MICROSCOPES! We looked at a bunch of slides. It was so cool!
October 10 - The word of the day is traverse which means to cross. The Habit of Mind was Questioning and Posing Problems. We watched the book Tuesday, by David Wiesner. It was a great book for questions. Our book consultant is Sully and he presented one of the books in the series The Last Kids on Earth. Today we practiced drawing microscope slides. We read the book Weslandia, it is about a boy who is an outcast but comes up with an amazing summer project. We used the Making Thinking Visible Routine, sentence, phrase, word. We are very excited to use microscopes next week!
October 3 - No school
September 26 - It was pouring buckets as we got off the bus today. We were drenched! Recess was inside. Today the word of the day was subtle, meaning slight. The habit of mind was questioning and posing problems. We are good at asking questions. The book consultants were Milo and Nathan. We read the book Du Iz Tak? It was a funny book about change. Then, we watched a video by the Amoeba Sisters on Compound Microscopes. QUEST was great!
September 19 - The word of the day was pallor, meaning paleness. The Habit of Mind was managing impulsivity. We read the book The Numberlys and made meaning out of the theme of the book. We worked in groups. Then, we learned all about the parts of a microscopes. We are so excited to use the microscopes. We played a name game with a ball and tried to break our record. QUEST was fun today.
September 12 - Today was the first day of QUEST. We learned alot about how QUEST operates. We did a deductive reasoning morning warm up. We had lunch at Tesago. We had an evacuation drill. We learned about word of the week, this weeks word is vulgar meaning common. We played four corners to get to know our classmates better. The habit of mind was persisting. Finally, we started license plates all about us. We will finish them next week.
