April 23- Emma shared the book "Best Wishes" book three. We also worked on our scripts for our PSAs. We took a new photo for our website and google classroom⬆️. We did a fun morning warmup that was a fun word puzzle. Mrs. McElhinney gave us new flavored Jolly Ranchers. Two of the new flavors were pineapple and gold pineapple. What a day! April 9 - Today, Safa was book consultant, and she shared The Sisters GRIMM, which is a fairytale fiction book with monsters and hero's. Most of the day, we were working on planning our PSA, until a very loud fire drill interrupted us! We did not forget breathing guide, thankfully, but I don't think it really calmed us down. We were already pretty chill. 😄 We completed a bunch of Last One Standing cards, and they were really fun! Apparently, according to the cards, about half the class is not breathing or living! 💀 Today was a great day as always! - Rose & Holly
March 19 - Today we started our day with a google form about how we like QUEST. Kayden shared The Magic Tree House Graphic Novel to the class. We continued our research for our world issues project. We finished our day with our week four questions. Safa shared pictures of dragons she drew. Today was a great day! - Sophia L. & Safa Z.
March 12- Today we used chopsticks for our morning warm-up. Teddy shared about the well known in QUEST book, Where the Mountain meets the Moon. It's by Grace Lin, one of Mrs. McElhinney favorite authors. We learned how to cite texts for our PSA. Then, we had a scavenger hunt to practice citing. Finally, on our own, we started researching for our topics. We had a fun day at QUEST! - Sophia T. & Audrey
March 5th- We had a challenging morning warm up called Get Your Jersey's On! We had to figure out what color jersey and sport Joel, Simon and Heather had. Our word of the week was singular meaning unique. We looked on how to think of deep questions for our PSA project (Public Service Announcement). It was a little challenging but we created 3 questions about our topic. This was an amazing QUEST day! - Audrey & Sophia T.
February 27th - We have started working on PSA project. A PSA is a public service announcement. We have all split into groups and picked what our topic was. Today our word of the day is acute. Acute means sharp. For example, an acute triangle. Emma was our book consultant. She presented the fifth book in the Front Desk series, Top Story. We have a new student in our class, Safa! February 24th - We have finished learning about all 16 Habits of Mind. We finished our imagery poems and participated in Socratic Seminar. There are photos of us "Peeling the Fruit" to help us comprehend the articles for seminar with more accuracy. Sophia and Melina were book consultants.
January 16th - The word of the day was tangible meaning touch. The Habit of Mind we learned about was Finding Humor. Learn to laugh. We worked on our poems. The highlight of our day was going to see the author Grace Lin. She has authored and illustrated many books including, Where the Mountain Meets the Moon. She did a readers theater with us.
January 9 - Today Emma presented Can You See Me, as book consultant. We looked at options for the world change project and hate to rank which world issues we thought were most important. We had a good discussion. We also worked on poems with using symbolism and imagery. Colton and Sophia T.
January 2 - Today our word is abate meaning to lesson. Rose was our book consultant and shared Maximum Ride. Maximum Ride is about a group of kids that were tested and got wings, but they ran away. We wrote topics and ideas for a poems we will write next week. We are starting our world problem project. Today we listened and reflected on the book The Water Princess. by Katherine and Marco
December 19 - We reflected on our STEM reports today! Sophia T, Emma, Holly made their Ferris Wheel or S.H.E Wheel! Audrey was book consultant. She shared Juliet Dove Queen of Love. We all worked together to play a ring game where they try to get a ring though a long piece of yarn everyone is holding! We also did a TED ED riddle. We finished the day with SOMA cubes and Challenge 24. - Zicheng Wu
December 12 - We built our Ferris Wheels today! Lots of frustration and success! Kayden was the book consultant. He presented Spectacular Stories. A great non-fiction book highlighing some of histories spectacular stories. Check out the videos below.
December 5 - The first word of the week for December was din. Teddy shared the book Two Minute Drill by Mike Lupica. The habit of mind for the week is Creating, Imagining, and Innovating. We will use this habits when building our Ferris Wheels. We started "window shopping" for our materials to make our Ferris Wheel and did a ton of planning. Mrs. McElhinney said we had a lot of good ideas. We played last man standing. We worked on making letters look like real objects. AN AWESOME DAY AT QUEST WE HAD!!!!!!!

November 28 - The word of the day was allude. Emma was our book consultant and she talked about the series, Shadow House. The Habit of Mind we learned about was Gathering Information Through our Senses. Our next STEM challenge will be mechanical engineering. We are going to build a functioning Ferris Wheel. We listened to a picture book about the first Ferris Wheel, Mr. Ferris and his Wheel.
Today 11/21/23 we made lights for our towers. The book consultant was Sowon and she presented the book Whatever After. We worked in groups and built circuits to put on our builds. We made parallel circuits instead of series circuits . Very sadly, with all gratitude, the Tower of Eiffel was destroyed. Other then that sadness, we had a very good day. - Katherine & Marco
Today is Tuesday, November 14 -After we talked about our word for the week, amiable, Sophia L. shared the book Traitors Among Us. We used the leaderless discussion to break down the poem I AM THE MOON. Then we made plans for Light It Up! -Holly and Sophia
Today is Tuesday, November 7th - This morning we solved a grid perplexer it was a difficult puzzle. Also, Audrey shared her book for book consultant. The book was called " Loki : A Bad God's Guide to Being Good." After, we watched a video about "Energy Island." Then we answered some questions in small groups. In the afternoon, we started a project, including electricity. we tested different ways to make circuits. Today was an amzing day at quest! -Melina & Sowon.
Today is Tuesday, October 24th- Today we made Amazon skyscrapers with packing peanuts and toothpicks. The skyscraper's names were Hot Mess, Tower Eiffel, Flying Cactus, It, and The Leaning Tower of Pisa. The book consultant was Emma and she talked about the book, Best Wishes The Sister Switch. This week's word was Countenance. We had an amazing audience to watch the skyscrapers withstand winds and beyond. This was an amazing day at QUEST!!! - Audrey and Katherine 🎉

Tuesday October 17th- It was Melina's birthday! The word of the week is Clamor. It was an awesome day, and we did a S.T.E.M. building trial. We practiced building towers out of packing peanuts and toothpicks. It was hard to come up with ideas, but it was fun! Marco was book consultant, and his book was about Plants VS Zombies! It was interesting to hear. For some reason, people were talking about turnips... I don't know why, but it was pretty funny! QUEST was GREAT today, just like always! -Rose & Holly ✨
Tuesday October 10th- The word of the week is eccentric meaning usuaual or quirky. Sophia T was the book consultant. She introduced us to Turtle in Paradise. Today we had our first Socratic Seminar. For our Seminar we had an outer circle and an inner circle. We split between the two groups and ended up having two seminars. The inner circle talks about questions from the passage that we read the week before. The name of the passage for the seminar was Sense of a Goose. We separated in partners and we got our question sheets. The outer circle people were the ones who observed their partners and their cooperation. They observed their speaking and if they involved people inside the conversations. After both of the seminars we shared what we wrote with our partners. Finally at the end of the day one thing that was funny was that Melina started doing the chicken dance and flying around like an airplane. Our day at Q.U.E.S.T was great!
Tuesday October 3 - We ran out of time for journalist, but we had a great day preparing for seminar by writing questions and beginning our STEM challenges with an index card challenge.
September 26- Today in QUEST, our book consultant, Zicheng, shared the book, The Gauntlet. Our habits of mind phrase was Striving for Accuracy. The word of the week was profound meaning deep. We used the peel the fruit strategy to decompose the book, Whoosh! The book was about Lonnie Johnson's life and his famous invention, The Super-Soaker (Water gun). Then we started preparing for our Socratic Seminars by reading a passage called The Sense of a Goose by an unknown author. We used a new strategy called Sentence Phrase Word. It was a fantastic day at QUEST!!!!!!!!!

September 19 - QUEST was awesome like always! We forgot to do book consultant, but that's OK. The word of the week was melancholy. I think a lot of kids will find the word this week! We also drew a picture of a engineer at work, and described it to others. We all wrote 2 truths and a lie on a card, and gave it to Mrs. McElhinney. She drew mine (Rose) and made everyone guess. It was really fun, and she will draw at least one card every week. We looked at Strandbeesten and What to Do with an Idea. We went outside and made a giant circle with all of us. Then, we tossed the ball to each other while saying their name. You could only pass to one person, and it was the same person every time. You had to remember who you passed to, and then you crouched down so everybody knew that you were already passed to and didn't forget. Mrs. McElhinney timed us and our best time was 20 seconds!! That's really fast! QUEST was AWESOME today! -Rose & Melina!
September 12 - Today we learned all about the class jobs. The teacher helper and gong ringer looks like the best job. We played a game with tarps. We had to flip the tarp over while standing on it. It was a little bit hard, but fun. We read the book Ten Birds and learned about the word dignity. We played the four corners game and it was exciting to learn about our QUEST class. We also took a photo. We talked about our morning routine.
