April 28 - We have not been good at keeping up with the Journalist responsibilities. Here are some photos of the month we missed.
February 24- Today was a productive day in quest. Today, the book consultant Trey, and he shared the book Fablehaven, a fantasy series, which was rated 4.9 stars. We finished and presented our Cell project, which came in different forms, such as cards, fortune tellers, and posters and made new "last man standing" guessing cards. - Terry
February 10 - Today was a fine day in QUEST. We finished our poems! The word of the day was maladroit meaning clumsy or bungling. We spent a lot of time working on the Cells and Smaller project. We will present our projects next week! - Celine
February 3 - Today was an exciting day for quest. There was no book consultant today. To start the day we finished our habits of mind. It was about having an open mind. We looked at quotes from famous people. Then, we had to write a descriptive comparing statement about either a flower, cat, or mushroom. After that we completed our animal season poems. Once we were done with the poems we transitioned into science. -William and Alex
January 27 - Today the book consultant was Eli. The book he talked about was Spy School, Eli rated it 5 out of 5 stars. We also worked on our poetry from Winter Horses and worked on our Cells and Smaller project. -Nolan
January 13- Today the book consultant was Terry. The book that he shared was called Wings of Fire. It looked very good and he rated it 4.9 out of 5 stars. We started a project about stuff from the universe in you. Where you had to do a deep dive on one of the topics in the Universe In You. After that we had we did some work on the Winter Horses poem and started choosing our ideas for the poem. It was a great day. - Harrison
January 6 - Today the book consultant was Celine. She presented the book Fast Pitch. It seems like a really cool book! We read an awesome book The Universe in You. It started out huge - an eight centimeter bird and then went microscopic. The habit of mind of the day was metacognition, thinking about your thinking. The word of the day was palpable meaning touchable. After that we read a poem called Winter Horses, and we answered questions about it using Chalk Talk. It was an awesome day!
December 16- Today's morning work was called Baker's Dozen. We had to see which combination was the right one by adding the different donuts. Eli was book consultant and shared the author Margeret Peterson Haddix series, Found. The book consultant was John. He shared the book Gamerville with the class. A fiction book about a boy who loves video games. He wants to compete in tournaments but his Mom doesn't want him to. His Mom sends him to a camp and he sneaks away. He goes to the tournament and wins. We made titles and subtitles for a part of a cell from a animal, plant, or both cells. The habit of mind today was thinking flexibly. On the board showed a picture of a boy having lots of ideas and a quote saying, "Nothing is softer or more flexible than water, yet nothing can resist it." Which shows how something simple can be very important. -Will
December 9 - The work of the week was stolid, meaning unemotional. The "Habit of Mind" today was working interpedently. Today, we looked at cheek cells both unstained and stained! We had to draw the stain out from under the coverslip. We could see the nucleus of our cheek cells! People in our group went to the back to stain or unstained the slide. We also did an H chart that explained the differences between plant and animal cells.
December 2 - The word of the week was genial meaning kind and jovial. The Habit of Mind was finding humor. The book consultant was Emma and she presented the BFG by Roald Dahl. Today we looked at onion cells under a microscope, with and without stain. We learned about why an onion cell is shaped like a polygon. We even were able to see the nucleus in the cell.
November 25 - Today we had our Socratic Seminar on Susan B. Anthony's Speech. The word of the day was pervade and the Habit of Mind was taking responsible risks. The moderators were Sasha and Harrison. They both did a great job moderating the seminar. The word of the week was pervade meaning to spread through out. The Habit of Mind was taking responsible risks.
November 18 - The word of the week was lurid meaning horrible and gruesome. The Habit of Mind was responding with wonderment and awe. Lillian was the book consultant, she presented Iron Hearted Violet. Today we worked on Compass Points, a Making Thinking Visible strategy that helped us understand Susan B. Anthony's persuasive speech on why women should be able to vote.
November 11 - No QUEST Veteran's Day
November 4 - Today was the first day of the Mascot Mystery. We had to make slides of six different substances to find out who stole the mascot costume. Salt and sugar were the coolest looking substance under the microscope. The word of the day was martyr meaning one who suffers. The Habit of Mind of the day was creating, imaging, and innovating. Hasan was our book consultant. He presented Grounded a Battle of the Books, book.
0ctober 28- Microscope Day! Diego was our book consultant today and he presented Harry potter. We did microscopes and we were practicing focusing the microscopes and were introduced to a Mascot Mystery involving microscopes. The word of the day was abyss and the habit of mind was gathering data using all senses.
October 21 - Seminar Day! Charlie was our book consultant. He presented Mr. Limoncello. Today we participated in our seminar based on the books Weslandia, Du Iz Tak?, and The Numberlys.
October 14 - Indigenous Peoples Day - no QUEST
Monday, October 7 ,2024. Quest was super exciting today! Eli was book consultant and presented the book The Children of Hurin. The word of the week was sagacity which means wisdom. The habit of mind we learned about was striving for accuracy . Lastly, we drew a picture of slides and we wrote about Weslandia.- Lilly and Violet
September 30 - The word of the week was traverse, meaning to cross. The Habit of Mind was questioning and posing problems. We watched a book, Tuesday, that made us think of a ton of questions to ask! We read the book Du Iz Tak? It was a book (in bug language, it was cool!) that had great illustrations about a community of bugs working together to build a plant fort. They run into a few plot twists. It was a good day at QUEST.
Monday, September 23 - Today QUEST was amazing! Today Hasan was book consultant and shared the book The Door of No Return. The word of the week is subtle meaning slight and pallor meaning paleness. We read a book called "The Numberlys" We also did a sheet for the what we thought the theme was. Also we had an evacuation drill, we did really well! Last, we did a packet on microscope use. We had an awesome QUEST! - Sasha and Diego

Monday, September 9 - Today we made license plates that represent ourselves using encapsulation. We played the game four corners to learn more about our classmates. We were introduced to the words of the week. This weeks word is vulgar meaning common. We looked around the new room. Some of us check out books from the QUEST library. Harrison was Book Consultant and he presented I Survived - Joplin Tornado 2011.
