April 25 - Wow, we have done a really poor job at keeping up with Journalist. We will be better, starting next week!
Friday, January 31st - Today was a really cold and snowy day a QUEST! Today we researched information about our project. In our projects, we choose a topic and we create posters, songs, and even playing cards about our topics. James, our book consultant shared about a book called 'Unico '. The word of the week was doleful, and it means ' filled with or evoking sadness. We worked on our poems too! - Emma
Friday, January 17th - Today was a busy day in QUEST. First, Tanishka presented the book The Tryout! The word of the day is furtive, meaning sneaky or stealthy. First we read a book about cells and everything smaller, The Universe in You. We selected out topics and groups for the cell project. We are super excited to start the project. We worked on our season/animal poems. We decided which animal to use and which season we wanted to connect the animal to. Today was popcorn day at Tesago, the PTA brought our class popcorn too! Dom made a great thank you card for the PTA. It was a great day.
Friday January 10th -When we arrived we did our morning work for the day it was challenging and took a lot of patience and focus. Our book consultant was Dean, he presented Wings of Fire book 5 the graphic novel he said he rated it 4 and a half stars. Our word of the day was palpable meaning touchable. Then we read the poem Winter Horses, there was lots of meaning and figurative language. Once we finished reading the poem we did an activity called "Chalk Talk." This activity is like a Socratic seminar on paper. There was chances to comment on peoples responses and make your own responses. Lastly, we read the book titled The Universe In You.. -Max and Maddie
January 3rd- Today we learned about organelles, small organs inside of cells. We also learned about the differences between plant cells and animal cells. One difference is that animal cells are usually a roundish shape, while plant cells are usually rectangular. We made headlines about things we learned with creativity, innovation and illustrations. We wrote one paragraph about what we learned. The book consultant was James and Tiyana. They both recommended their books.
December 20 - Today we looked at cheek cells. They were so small! We were able to see the nucleus in the cells once we stained them. We had to wick the stain of the slide, from under the cover slip. It was very satisfying to watch the stain get sucked up into the paper towel. The word of the day was austere, meaning bare. The Habit of Mind was Thinking Flexibly. Tiyana was our book consultant. She presented The Lost Library.
December 13 - Today was a great day in QUEST. We looked at onion cells under the microscope. We learned how to wick stain out from under the cover slip so we could still see the onion cell when we stained it. Max was book consultant and he presented a mystery/horror graphic novel called Wait 'Til Helen Comes. Everyone is really excited to read this book. Dom was our other book consultant and he presented Diary of a Wimpy Kid. The words of the day were genial, meaning kind, and stolid, meaning unemotional. The Habit of Mind was Thinking Interdependently. It was a fun day!

November 21 - The word of the day is pervade meaning to spread throughout. The Habit of Mind was taking responsible risks. Today was our Socratic Seminar about Susan B. Anthony's persuasive speech. Tiyana and Jason were the moderators, the leaders who ask the questions at seminar. They did a great job. We also did a processing activity called Headlines.
November 14 - The word of the day was martyr meaning one who suffers. The Habit of Mind was creating, imaging, and innovating. Today we finished the Mascot Mystery by figuring what substance was on the mascot. It was onion powder. Salt and sugar were the best substance to look at under the microscope.
November 7 - We are using Susan B. Anthony's speech when she was released from jail for voting. The primary document was hard to read. It was challenging. Then we worked on the mascot mystery for science. We looked at sand, salt, sugar, flour, onion powder, and powder under the microscope.
October 18 - Today's word of the day was tedious, meaning boring. The habit of mind was listening with understanding and empathy. Our book consultant was Max. He presented Finding Sasha. We created questions for next weeks Socratic Seminar. Then, we finally got to use the microscope. We spent 40 minutes looking at different slides, learning how to focus the microscope. It was incredible!
October 11 - No QUEST due to Shatekon Fun Run
October 4 - Today in QUEST we read Weslandia. Weslandia is about a boy who gets bullied in school, but makes a very cool summer civilization. We practiced drawing cells under a microscope. Today our book consultant was Jason and he told us about Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Emma was book consultant too. She presented The School of Good and Evil. The habit of mind was Striving for Accuracy. The word of the day was traverse, meaning to cross.
Friday, September 27, 2024. Today we didn't The Habit of Mind was Questioning and Posing Problems. We watched a book, Tuesday that made us think of a billion questions. The Word of the day was subtle, meaning slight. Today we read the book Du Iz Tak? It is a book about bug language and working together. - Tanishka
Today is Friday, September 20th, 2024. Today was an exciting day in Quest. Maddie was book consultant and presented the book Edward Tulane, The Miraculous Journey. Brayden presented the book, I Survived the Revolutionary War, the graphic novel. The word of the week was pallor meaning paleness. The habit of mind was managing impulsivity. We read the book The Numberlys and used Making Meaning to figure out the theme of the book. We began learning parts of the microscope. The last part of the day, was Challenge 24. - Max
September 13 - Today was a great day in QUEST. The word of the day was vulgar, meaning common. The Habit of Mind was persisting. Mrs. McElhinney was the book consultant and presented the book Gregor the Overlander, a fantasy novel. We learned all about the daily routine in QUEST. We played a game four corners to learn all about our classmates. We created a license plate that is all about us.
