6/8/22 Today we built Roller Coasters out of wood rails and pipe insulation which looks like a mini pool noodle. They were tricky to build. Below are videos of our creations.
06/01/2022 Today we built our Ferris Wheels! All of our Ferris Wheels held a passenger and were able to turn. This was our favorite build of the year! Take a look at the videos below.

5/25/22 At the start of the day, we got ready for seminar, and Lexi shared her book "Pay It Forward". Then we did our seminar about "zoos should be banned". After that, we wrote the summary of the seminar, and how our idea changed or not. Lastly, we read The Book of Three to end our day.

05/18/22 At the start of the day, we found some words (me included) and then we read a short chapter of The Book of Three. Taran encountered the Horned King and then he died. then we played with Spheros™ Bolts for an hour and a half. We did games such as Bolting, a portmanteau of Bolt and Bowling, and some of us did an obstacle course to earn a license to play the virtual games. Then we went into two kindergarten classes and showed them the Bolts.

To start the quest day off we read our books.After that we read to article that we will do for the socratic seminar.Then Mrs.Maclhoney read us a little bit of the book of three.then to end the day we planed for our ferris wheel project.

We first read our books and Mrs. McElhinney had a bunch of words to put up. Our class is the Classic Word Experts. Then, Judah presented Avatar: The Search as book consultant. We then started planning our Ferris wheel challenge. Next, we chose our articles for our seminar. Then we finished out our day with some fun thinking games. Caedan Grizzaffi
Today we split into groups and each group made a structure out of packing peanuts and toothpicks. Then, we tested them against a fan on three different modes. The modes are 1, 2, 3 at three different lengths the lengths are 63 in., 45 in., and 27 in. Only 2 of the builds made it the farthest they could go Also, we had a lot of words so we read for a long time like 25 minutes. At the very end of the day, we had a few minutes left and we listened to The Book of Three untill it was time to leave. Tristan and Gracie
4/5/22 Today we started the day by doing an engineering challenge with marshmallows and toothpicks. It didn't work. After we built the structure, we started writing our final drafts of the personification poems we've been writing. Mia and Brooke
3/30/22 This week we started QUEST by reading a book quietly at our desk. Then, we started making a rough draft poem that has lots of description and personification in it. Then we started making a plan for a tall sky scraper out of jelly beans and toothpicks. -Alexis Hull and Charlotte Drazkowski
3/23/22 Today our book consultant was Yennah and her book was "A Monster Like Me" and she gave it 4.5 stars. Then we did our word which was "Grotesque". Then we planned what our topic would be for our poems. Finally, we did our engineer project to end the day. We wrote about eight different engineering fields. 3/16/22 || This morning we found a lot of words for the wall.. A lot of words are very crowded but some have only 1 or 2. The Word of the Week today was odious, which means hated. Grace was the book consultant and she talked about Diary of a Wimpy kid and gave it 5/5 stars. We built towers out of 50 index cards and put a load of 15 dice inside a wooden block. Mrs. McElhinney sorted our groups by emojis! Only 2 groups successfully held the load for 30 seconds, not including mine. We watched a video about the Process of Engineering ft. Making Dinner! Then we went over the process of each tower and reflected on our tower. After that we did poems and analyzed them based on the amount of descriptive words and personification. 3/9/22 The word of the week was sublime, which means lofty. Mia was book consultant and she told us about Racing in the Rain. Then we read Whoosh!: Lonnie Johnsons Super Soaking Stream of Inventions. We also did a paper on grapefruit. I love quest! See y'all next week! Caleb and Brooke
3/2/22 We started out the day with reading. Then we had to draw out a picture of an engineer at work. Then we formed groups and answered definition of Engineering, Examples of Engineers, Non example of Engineers, and what Engineers do. To finish off our day, we read a poem about grapefruit and it's characteristics. By: Sydney and Mia
1/26/22 First, we did our February Socratic Seminar vote. At the end, we resulted with the NOAA and Opinion writing about zoos as our articles for the next seminar. After that, we read Book of Three. We spent the remainder of class doing Industrial Revolution research. We also started to plan the Industrial Revolution Project!
1/19/22 The word of the week was tremulous which means quivering. We did a seminar about the global supply chain and Afghanistan. The book consultant was Leonard Wang and he told us about the book Mrs. Yonkers is Bonkers in the Weird School book series. 1/12/22 Today the Word of the Week was livid. The Habit of Mind today was Taking Responsible risks. Sami then was the Book Consultant and he presented Harry Potter: The Deadly Hallows. Madison lead us through our breathing exercise. And then we did the Book of Three and learned about Fflewddur Fflam. Then we did the IR research and then we were done with QUEST for the day. Lucas
1/5/22 First, when we came in we read a book of choice for 15 mins. Then we read a small passage about either Afghanistan or the supply chain and did a seminar paper on these passages. The last thing we did was worked on notes for the IR project.
12/22/21 Today many people found words in what they are reading at home. Mrs. M put up seven new names. Then, we read for 15 minutes. The word of the day was melancholy which means sadness. Mia was book consultant today, she introduced the the book Give and Take. Next we did a habit of mind skits. Then, Lexi was our breathing guide. then we read The Book of Three in it Eilonwy met Gurgi and we found out that Taran does not want to go on an adventure any more. 12/15/21 We started our day by reading for 15 minutes. After that, Alexis was our book consultant of the day. She introduced the book The Front Desk. Next, we worked on identifying decisions and the outcomes of different pieces of text about the Industrial Revolution. 12/8/21 We started our day by reading for 15 minutes. After that we went around the room in a circle, jotting down ideas about different topics on the Industrial Revolution. We were brainstorming ideas for the Industrial Revolution Project. Later that day we started our Industrial Revolution planning with a partner or group. At the end of the day we created analogies using the characters from The Book of Three. by Sydney and Mia
12/1/21 Today we talked about the poem, I Hear America Singing. We had our first seminar about the poem. A seminar is when we sit in a circle and have a discussion about the topic. We had partners watching us while we were having the seminar. The outside circle took notes on how often the inside/talking circle spoke, invited other to speak, and if we used scholarly language. We swapped spots so each person could talk and watch their partner. We really liked the seminar.
11/24/21 Today we started the day by doing the last slide for our notes for the Industrial Revolution. Then we did the book consultant which was Tristan. After that, we arranged the rest of the books in our classroom library which took about an hour. When we were done with the books we did a Thanksgiving themed word puzzle. 11/17/21 Today we learned more about the Industrial Revolution and what happened because of it. In The Book of Three we are reading we are learning more and more about Eilonwy and how she got put in the cell with Taran. We learned the word "Amiable" which means friendly. -Alexis Hull
11/10/21-We had Judah, the book consultant, share "Big Nate '' he gave it three out of five stars. Then, we did our word which was incredulous that means skeptical. We did applying past knowledge to new situations. We then discussed I Hear America Singing and wrote reflections about what we thought. After that we read "The Book Of Three." Finally, we did explore and explain with the Industrial Revolution. - Caedan
11/04/21 We learned about the Habit of Mind, thinking about our thinking. Watched a video about it. We read the poem " I Hear America Singing" by Walt Whitman. We also did mind maps. We each read an article from a Kids Discovery Magazine and made a mind map about it. Tristan
10/27/21 The word of the week was visage. The book consultant was Lucas and he talked about the manga book Yotsuba&! and rated it 5 stars. This week the habits of mind was flexibility. We each got a question about systems and we had to do a presentation on the question and had to share it. After that we read some of The Book of Three and drew a scene from the chapter. 10/20/21 We had an internet outage, so no formal report. Here are some details. We categorized and classified different systems. Caleb gave a great book consultant presentation. Gurgi is back in The Book of Three. We acted out the first five Habits of Mind. We had several Oscar worthy performances!
10/13/21 We started with Yennah tell us about "Who Were Venus and Serena Williams. Then we did the word of the day, which was Eccentric. It means someone who is unusual or different in a good way like liking something others don't. Then we did habits of mind which was empathy. That means you understand someone's feelings. Next we looked at a poster and said what it means. Then we did "The Book Of Three" and our mind maps. Finally, we did some of our letter coloring and then our reflections. 10/06/21 Today's Word of the Week was magnanimous, which comes from the Latin prefix magn- meaning "good." The word itself means "generous spirit." The Habit of Mind was Strive For Accuracy. The quote associated with this is "A man who has committed a mistake and doesn't correct it is committing another mistake," from the Chinese philosopher Confucius. The Book Consultant was Grace. She talked about the renowned book Diary of a Wimpy Kid and give it a 4/5 star rating. The subject today was The Industrial Revolution. We analyzed pictures of children our age working in factories. We elaborated letter cards with the letter that starts our name on them by using the shape of the letter to make different things. Lucas
09/29/21 - The word of the week was wistful. Alexis talked the book Smile and it a five star rating and Nathanial discussed Story Thieves: The Stolen Chapters. Today's habit mind was Questioning! We asked questions about photographs to figure out what the photos were about. We also learned about systems and listed as many systems as we could think of. In The Book of Three we talked about all different characters. Our favorite character is the terrifying Horned King! We created character mind maps. Today was such a great day at QUEST!
