October 8 - The word of the week was allude, (Presented by Carolyn) meaning indirectly referring to. The habit of mind was listening with understanding and empathy. The book consultant for today was Sidak who presented Gregor the Overlander. We did an engineering challenge where we used the engineering process, ask, think, plan, prototype, improve. We had to build the tallest tower out of 50 index cards which had to support a big eraser box. Sidak, Cullen, and Moeiz got on the hall of fame with their tower being 18 inches tall. Lots of creative ideas from everyone! - Emily
October 1 - Today's word of the day is magnanimous meaning generous spirit. Today's habit of mind is striving for accuracy. Today we had no book consultant. We read a book called Woosh by Chris Barton about Lonnie Johnson then we did a Peel the fruit Making Thinking Visible Routine. We read the Sense of a Goose again and did a Sentence, Phase, Word processing activity about it. Next week is the big build!
September 24 - Today's word of the day is wistful, meaning having sadness. Today's habit of mind was questioning, asking questions. The book consultant was Cullen, he presented Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. We watched a video about the Strandbeesten, a skeleton machine that walked on the beach. Today we played last person standing were Bailey and Arthur. We started to read A Sense of a Goose, the essay we are reading for seminar in a few weeks.
September 17 - Today's word of the day is melancholy, meaning sad. The habit of mind is managing impulsivity, thinking before you act. The book consultant is Mia, and she presented the book Restart. Today there was a fire drill (It lasted 567 years, maybe not but it seemed like it). Today we drew a picture of engineers at work and described the details in the pictures. Today was the first day playing last person standing, which is a game where you have clues and it it is not true about you, you sit down and the person who made the clues should be the last person standing. September 10 - Today was the first day of QUEST. The word of the day was exquisite which means beautifully and divinely made. The habit of mind was persisting, we watched Michael Phelps persist. Emily was our book consultant and presented, The Squad. We played Four Corners answering statements so we could get to know each other better. Our morning warmup was a deductive reasoning puzzle about a boys vacation. We found out about our jobs and read Ten Birds.
