November 19 - Today we learned about circuits and experimented to make them. We watched a video about how to make them and we also learned how to make parallel circuits. The book consultant was Moksh. He showed us the Magic Treehouse series. The word of the day was livid, meaning furious. The habit of mind was thinking and communicating with accuracy and precision. It was a great day in QUEST.
November 12 - We forgot to do book consultant and word of the day today. Today we watched a video about clean energy on a island called Samson Island we also watched a video about an island named Aero that converted to clean energy. Both of these islands are small islands in Denmark. They are trying to be innovative thinkers and create with their energy. In are thinking like an engineer packet we wrote our reflections about what went well in our build, last Wednesday. We started reading about our next Socratic Seminar. At the end of the day we played a few rounds of Last Person Standing.
November 5 - Today there was no book consultant because today was our big build day. Today's word was profound, meaning deep. We also talked about the topic we were doing for our winter Socratic seminar, which is about different world problems, including life on land, life below water, clean water, and poverty. After that we started our main thing for the day, which was building tall and stable skyscrapers using just toothpicks and packing peanuts. Then we tested the skyscrapers and all of them stayed up after getting blown by 3 speeds of a fan at 100 cm away, 75 cm away, and 50 cm away. October 29 - Today the book consultant was Bailey. She presented Odder by Katherine Applegate. The word of the day was acute meaning sharp. We tested building the skyscrapers. We also worked on a color, symbol, image about the animal texts we read earlier.
October 22 - The word of the day is visage, it means the look on a face. The habit of mind was thinking about your thinking. The book consultant was Riley. She presented about the Warriors, the graphic novel version. Today we had math paths as our morning warm up. They are super easy, but fun. We had our seminar today about The Sense of a Goose. Breandan and Aadya were our moderators. The seminar was awesome.
October 15 - The word of the week was Din which means loud, harsh, or strident noise. (presented by Madalyn.) The habit of mind was flexibly thinking. Lars presented The wild Robot. by Peter Brown... We wrote our question for Socratic Seminar that we then ranked and picked our favorites. after that we learned about our next STEM project witch is building a building using only toothpicks and bio-degradable foam packing peanuts. -Emily
October 8 - The word of the week was allude, (Presented by Carolyn) meaning indirectly referring to. The habit of mind was listening with understanding and empathy. The book consultant for today was Sidak who presented Gregor the Overlander. We did an engineering challenge where we used the engineering process, ask, think, plan, prototype, improve. We had to build the tallest tower out of 50 index cards which had to support a big eraser box. Sidak, Cullen, and Moeiz got on the hall of fame with their tower being 18 inches tall. Lots of creative ideas from everyone! - Emily
October 1 - Today's word of the day is magnanimous meaning generous spirit. Today's habit of mind is striving for accuracy. Today we had no book consultant. We read a book called Woosh by Chris Barton about Lonnie Johnson then we did a Peel the fruit Making Thinking Visible Routine. We read the Sense of a Goose again and did a Sentence, Phase, Word processing activity about it. Next week is the big build!
September 24 - Today's word of the day is wistful, meaning having sadness. Today's habit of mind was questioning, asking questions. The book consultant was Cullen, he presented Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. We watched a video about the Strandbeesten, a skeleton machine that walked on the beach. Today we played last person standing were Bailey and Arthur. We started to read A Sense of a Goose, the essay we are reading for seminar in a few weeks.
September 17 - Today's word of the day is melancholy, meaning sad. The habit of mind is managing impulsivity, thinking before you act. The book consultant is Mia, and she presented the book Restart. Today there was a fire drill (It lasted 567 years, maybe not but it seemed like it). Today we drew a picture of engineers at work and described the details in the pictures. Today was the first day playing last person standing, which is a game where you have clues and it it is not true about you, you sit down and the person who made the clues should be the last person standing. September 10 - Today was the first day of QUEST. The word of the day was exquisite which means beautifully and divinely made. The habit of mind was persisting, we watched Michael Phelps persist. Emily was our book consultant and presented, The Squad. We played Four Corners answering statements so we could get to know each other better. Our morning warmup was a deductive reasoning puzzle about a boys vacation. We found out about our jobs and read Ten Birds.
