June 11 - Today was our Day of QUEST! Lots of fun with Roller Coasters and Spheros.

February 26 - Today we finished our science projects, we will present them next week! The projects are super cool! We also watched a TedED riddle about Wildebeests and Lions crossing a river.
February 12 - Today's word of the week was maladroit, meaning clumsy or bungling. For morning work, we did sudokus. Then, we worked on our science projects. We all worked very hard and were very focused, but we all had fun. - Leeanne
January 29 - Lunar New Year
January 15-Today we started our project and our poetry writing. The word of the week was Furtive. We also brainstormed animals and seasons for our poetry. At the end of the day we did a fun crossing the bridge riddle. -Emily and Chloe
January 8, 2025- Today we did poetry reading. We also learned about the smallest things and building blocks of the universe. The word of the week was "palpable", meaning "touchable". Some of the smallest things were atoms, atomic nuclei, quarks, and protons, neutrons, and electrons. The poem today was "Winter Horses" by Caitlin Graham. The book review today was "The Lost Hero" by Rick Riordan. We had a fun learning experience. ~Teddy and Carolyn
December 18th 2024-
Today we had a game day. The word of the week was austere meaning bare. We played a lot of strategy games, such as Blokus, Qwirkle, Battle Ship, and Set. All the games were very good, but our favorite was Qwirkle. We got 15 minutes for each game. Since we were 2 weeks ahead we got to have a super fun day.
December 11 - the word of the week is stolid meaning unemotional.
The Habit of Mind is thinking interdependently.
We learned similarities and differences between plant and animal cells. We created a heading and Subtitle about organelles.
The Book Consultant was Ben and he presented the book Grounded.
Quest was fantastic today!
December 4 - The word of the day was genial meaning good natured, jovial, and kind. The Habit of Mind was finding humor in difficult situations. We looked at onion cells under a microscope. We had to make a wet mount side with and without stain. When we looked at the cells with stain we could see the nucleus of the cell. We finally switched jobs! Now the kids at the end of the alphabet get to have a class job!
November 27 - Thanksgiving Break
November 20 - The word of the day is pervade meaning to spread throughout. The Habit of Mind was taking responsible risks. Peter was book consultant, he presented his favorite book about a cat who gets a new chance at life. Today was our Socratic Seminar about Susan B. Anthony's persuasive speech. Kahini and Ashira were the moderators, the leaders who ask the questions. They did a great job.
November 13 - The word of the day was lurid meaning horrible and gruesome details. The Habit of Mind was responding with wonderment and awe. Today we used the Making Thinking Visible strategy Compass Points to help us reflect on the Susan B. Anthony speech. Aadya was book consultant. She presented a favorite, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
November 6 - The word of the day was martyr meaning one who suffers. The Habit of Mind was creating, imaging, and innovating. We learned how to make a slide to look at under the microscope. Today we finished the Mascot Mystery by figuring what substance was on the mascot. It was onion powder. Salt and sugar were the best substance to look at under the microscope. We are all getting lots of practice focusing the microscope in. Addison was book consultant. She presented the series Fablehaven. It's a fantasy series.
October 30 - The word of the day was abyss meaning bottomless depth. The habit of mind was gathering data through all senses. Today we started the second seminar of the year. We are using Susan B. Anthony's speech when she was released from jail for voting. The primary document was hard to read. It was challenging. We didn't have enough time for science so we had to figure out how to make a 3x3x3 cube with the SOMA blocks. They were so much fun and frustrating for some!
October 16 - Today's word of the day is tedious. That means boring. Our book consultant was Evelyn. The book was Deep of Dark of Dangerous. This book is made by Mary Downing Hahn. Today was the seminar on change. Lingyi and Leo were the moderators. Mr. Pace, the principal came in the room today to watch our Socratic seminar. Skano is still in the lead with Classic Words sticky notes. We have four sticky notes. Today was great! - Addison and Chloe
Today is October 9 and we used microscopes! Microscopes are so cool! We got to look at lots of different things like mushroom cells, blood cells, and insect parts. It was awesome! The word of the week is sagacity which means wisdom. The Habit of Mind is Striving for Accuracy. We also made questions for our Socratic seminar. We had to figure out which questions were going to make a good discussion and other people would want to talk about. Mrs. McElhinney forgot to take photos!
October 2 - Skano is firmly in the lead with Classic Word sticky notes and no one will catch up. We have 3 sticky notes. The word of the day is traverse which means to cross. The Habit of Mind was Questioning and Posing Problems. We watched the book Tuesday, by David Wiesner. It was a great book for questions. Our book consultant is Kahini Jhaveri and she presented Besties Work It Out. Today we practiced drawing microscope slides. We read the book Weslandia, it is about a boy who is an outcast but comes up with an amazing summer project. We used the Making Thinking Visible Routine, sentence, phrase, word.
September 25 - Skano claimed the first sticky note on the wall for Vulgar today! It was Addison Fugal! We watched a video about microscopes by The Amoeba Sisters. We read the book Du Iz Tak by Carson Ellis today.. Du Iz Tak is about a community of bugs that work together to build a plant fort. Today, Cadence Bartlett was our book consultant. She shared the book Squished with us! Subtle was the word of the week, it means Slight.
September 18 - The word of the week is pallor which means paleness. We also learned about microscopes. Today we also read Numberlys and we got into groups and wrote about the main idea. The habits of mind was about self control. Today Addison was the book consultant and presented The Land of Stories. Today QUEST was great!
September 11 - Today we played four corners to get to know our classmates better. We made custom license plates about us. The habits of mind was persisting. The word of the day was vulgar meaning common. Mrs. McElhinney was the book consultant and presented Gregor the Overlander. QUEST was super fun.
