On October 24, the EHS Orchestra and Chorus held a concert, which was a big event for Tri-M. Tri-M is our Music Honors Society, known as Modern Music Masters. Over the past year and a half, we have been fundraising to work with Sing Me A Story, a non-profit organization helping kids with chronic illness. Their mission is to support the kids and their families through music. They hire a composer to take a story a kid wrote and turn it into a piece of music, which a music group, such as the EHS Chorus and Orchestra, will perform.
Through Sing Me a Story, we were matched with a kid. His name is Olly, and he has GRIN. GRIN is a genetic disease that causes developmental delay, intellectual disability, and more. Olly has limited mobility, meaning he was not able to write the story himself. His sister Ashlynn wrote a story about him called The Dragon and the Landslide. The story was about her finding and befriending a dragon named Olly.
This story was handed off to Spencer Wiles, who recently graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a master's degree in composition. He wrote a piece for the orchestra, chorus, and select wind members that captures Ashlynn’s story. The piece was premiered at the concert with Olly, Ashlynn, and their family present.
All donations at the concert were given to the foundation CureGRIN. This foundation helps to find a cure for all GRIN mutations.
