Exeter High School Student-Run Newspaper!
Happy June EHS-ers! Congrats, you’ve made it!
To end the year, this article is a tribute to all the teachers leaving EHS—either by retirement or to pursue their passions and goals in life elsewhere. See below to read on about how these teachers will be remembered by current and former students!
“Ms. Catcher is one of the best teachers I have ever had because of her love for English and love for helping others improve in their passions. I had the pleasure of going on the Iceland trip with Ms. Catcher and other students, and she made the whole trip feel like a true dream. I wish her all the best in becoming a librarian, and I know she will be perfect for it.” - Shayla Gerkin
“I really appreciated Mr. Hobbs and all of the effort that he puts into teaching his students. Every class you can see that he really cares about us, and works to give us the best math education that we can get. I can always walk into his class knowing something is going to happen that will make me laugh, as well as make me think, and it's a class I look forward to!” - Anonymous
“While I’ve never had Mrs. Grimes as a teacher personally, and I was not able to find a student who could write a reflection in time; I will say that I have certainly seen her around the halls. When I did, she was always a ray of light with her smile that she would flash at everyone who she walked by. She is incredibly kind and caring, and we will all miss having her around! Wishing you the best of luck in the future, have fun with your relatives in Norway!” - Beatriz Mella (me!)
“Coach Ball has been such a staple here at Exeter. His leadership and abilities to be a role model has shaped all the student-athletes we see today. He makes a huge impact on everyone here, as he is always kind and supportive. For me personally, Coach Ball has always stuck by my side. For instance, this winter he drove all the way out to Keene to watch the girls’ basketball team in the last game of the regular season. It is such a loss that we are losing Coach Ball, but we know he has made such an incredible contribution to Exeter High School. We cannot thank him enough. Coach Ball is, in his own words, ‘always a winner.’” - Karli Scherpf
“Mr. Quinn always told us not to give him ‘that’ tone of voice when he gave us a packet of homework, but he’s always there to answer questions when you need it. He always takes time for students to understand what is going on in his class but still challenges them. Mr. Quinn always makes sure to greet us by the door, too, and always wishes us a great day! Thank you Mr. Quinn, enjoy retirement by the beach!” - Anonymous
“Mr. Quinn is an amazing teacher. He taught us not only when to use brackets instead of parentheses, but how to problem-solve. His classroom was filled with dedication and patience that, at times, we didn’t deserve. On the days where we would sit and talk over him or not listen at all, he was patient enough to bear with us. He taught us something new every day. We learned a million math skills, half of us won’t even remember next week. But most importantly we also learned how to work through problems, reflect on failures, and overcome the mistakes we made. Through it all, Mr. Quinn was there to support us and help us learn to the best of our ability. We will forever appreciate all Mr. Quinn has done. He has made such an incredible impact on Exeter High School, in both the classroom and on the field. We can’t begin to thank you enough.” - Anonymous
“Mr. Kinton had the greatest attitude towards life and teaching. I knew he had a true passion for his job, and he didn’t let anything, but family (the only valid reason!), get in the way of his teaching. He wasn’t just a teacher, but a friend and mentor. He got to know every student for who they were as a person, not just as a student. My friends and I sat at a lab bench in the back, and he would always visit us to talk about life and to offer the best advice. I will never forget Freshman year because of Mr. Kinton, and he will always be missed. I wish him the best in his future endeavors, and I hope he can find more time with his family!” - Beatriz Mella (me!)
Mr. Kinton is incredibly kind and amazing as both a teacher and a person. As a teacher he makes sure that everyone understands the topic at hand and that no one falls behind, always offering help when needed. But even though he thinks school is important, he firmly stands by the fact that everyone's well-being is even moreso, making sure that everyone takes care of themselves first. I'm so grateful I got to spend my first year of highschool with Mr. Kinton because he always had my back on everything, and I still get to say hi and check in with him in the hallways. Thank you Mr. Kinton! - Amelia Buckley
To all of you amazing teachers: thank you for your work and all you’ve done here at Exeter High School. You are always welcome to come visit us here again; you will always be loved and cared for here! (And no, your visit will not include staff meetings, late-night Saturday events, cafe duty, or early mornings!) To the EHS-ers, make sure to pay them a visit, or send them an email or note to say goodbye and thank you!
Happy Summer to you all! Live it up, and I’ll see you around next year. (Senior SZN 2025!!!)
