Exeter High School Student-Run Newspaper!
Exeter Community Fridge
I hope you all had a wonderful December break! I greet you with a very Happy New Year with this necessary reminder: While December is officially over, the season of giving will never be.
In the Giving Back to the Community article by fellow Talon writer, Amelia Copp, you may have read about the many opportunities to perform the gift of giving. There are many ways to give back to your community, such as through organizations and programs like Coats For Kids, the SPCA, Tree Donations, and many more. Since reading her article, I was heavily inspired to search for ways I could get involved myself.
To all the people who currently reside in Exeter, or are a short drive away, I want to bring the Exeter Community Fridge to your attention!
The Exeter Community Fridge is a recently established public fridge/pantry located outside the Exeter YMCA on 56 Linden Street, Exeter NH. Its main function is to provide and share the necessity of food for the public. It’s open 24/7 and stored with donated items from the community. Ranging from prepared meals and dairy products, all the way to personal hygiene items and seasonal goods, the fridge/pantry provides the community with these free essentials reminding us that FOOD IS A FUNDAMENTAL HUMAN RIGHT! and it should be accessible to everyone no matter the circumstances.
The fridge itself should be enough to motivate the community to carry the message by donating food, taking what they need, and spreading the word. I have yet to donate to the fridge myself but felt compelled to share my appreciation and love for the fridge that Mary-Paige Provost (Mrs. Provost) started with the help of Daniel Provost (Mr. Provost)!
So to reiterate: If you happen to swing by the grocery store, or cook/bake something delicious, the Exeter Community Fridge welcomes any extra items you’re willing to share. The season of giving is year-round, so please stop by with what you can. No matter what you give, it will always and forever be greatly appreciated.
EHS, I leave you today with this reminder from Israelmore Ayivor: “Giving does not only precede receiving; it is the reason for it. It is in giving that we receive.”
Always remember the importance of giving.
