Spring Track
By Eli Cross and Bri Paterna
With the outdoor track season quickly approaching, it is the appropriate time to start discussing who can potentially make a run for the Division 1 girls title. The defending champions, Exeter Blue Hawks, are coming off a historic indoor season scoring a total of 126 points at the state meet to win by 71 points. Exeter looks to be the frontrunner hoping to repeat their team title outdoors. However, with athletes playing different sports and the added field events, anything could happen. Also watch for Pinkerton on the podium, taking advantage of strong sprinters and hurdlers. Individuals to look out for include:
1000m - Makita Barry
600m - Charlotte Beaudoin
3000m - Alexis Paterna
1500m - Alexis Paterna
300m - Angela Cenesca
55m - Nora Brayall
55m Hurdles - Abigail Stienecker
Shotput - Consuelo Borico
High Jump - Danielle Bates
Long Jump - Angela Cenesca
It will be interesting to see how the season plays out and where athletes chose to concentrate their energies. The Blue Hawks have proven to have strong depth and key athletes on their roster. As head Coach Leveille, the coaching staff and other members of the team prepare for the outdoor season, they follow a powerful mantra created specifically for the 2026 team. From the words of Coach Leveille: “It's all about the mindset. Put the work in. Track is a sport that rewards hard work and consistency. Talented, hard working individuals will always win out in the sport of track.”
Additionally Coach Moretti believes the team is “riding a high because the girls won indoors.” When asked who their greatest competition was he responded saying, “I feel like no one can compete with us if we do all the right things and remain healthy throughout the season.” The coaches are entering the season with confidence and strong trust in their athletes.
Key Meets:
One of the most important meets of the season is The Black Bear Invitational, on April 25th. As the first big invitation hosted by Coe-Brown with the best competition in the state, this can be a good time to see where people stand. A majority of the D1 teams will be here, it could be a team battle. Competitive races and fast times are expected. Another key meet is the Seacoast Championships, taking place on May 22nd. This meet is going to be a preview for states. It will give teams and individuals a good idea of where they stand and how they will place at states. It is also our Home meet. It is also at the end of the season where everyone is fit and ready for championship meets. Again, expect fast times and competitive races
Key Athletes:
Alexis Paterna is an extremely valued member of the Exeter Track team. She is the defending 3200m and 1600m champion as well as anchor in the 4x800m. Coming off of 3000m, 1500m and 4x800m wins from the indoor season, as well as setting state records in the 1500m and 4x800m. With that being said she hopes to “Take the momentum from the indoor season to the outdoor season.” She is poised to dominate the outdoor season and lead her team to another state title.
Another esteemed Blue Hawk is Isabelle Bremer. She was runner up in the 800m last year and runner up in the 600m from indoor. She is also a part of the state record holding 4x800m relay. Isabelle is also a leader on the team as she is an experienced runner and a captain everyone looks up to, and she can help add to the success. “Exciting season to come,” Bremer said. “We are excited and ready to go.”
Overall the entire girls team is exercising discipline and dedication through their training and enthusiasm entering the new era. Each athlete and point contribution matters. See you at States!
