Winter Carnival Pros and Cons

On February 23, we wrapped up Winter Carnival with the juniors taking the win. Winter Carnival is a 2 week long event that comes with some pros and cons. 

Pro: Unity

Everyone is brought together by a common goal, winning. This brings us closer together as a grade and raises our spirit. 

Con: Superiority

There is a level of hierarchy that strengthens during Winter Carnival. It is present during the whole year but really shows during this week. It happens within the grade and within the whole school. The good thing about this is that it is not very evident after this week. 

Pro: Inclusion

Winter Carnival has so many options for activities that everyone can participate and hive fun. It is especially strong during the pep rally, as it has changed to allow opportunities for artistic and academic activities. 

Con: Favors Athleticism

While there is inclusion in the activities, most people only pay attention to the athletic activities. This has started to change as the other activities have become more entertaining, but the favoritism is still evident. 

Pro: Decor

During Winter Carnival and the week leading up to it, the commons become decorated with the grade’s theme. This makes it more entertaining to walk through and is also fun to see the progress that is made the week before.

Con: Waste

There is a lot of paper used on the commons walls to make it colorful. While it makes the commons more entertaining, it becomes excessive.
