Formula of Holiday Rom-Coms

The overly tight workaholic girl goes back to her small town for the holiday. A small town guy enjoys spreading the holiday cheer, but hates how this new girl forbids to celebrate. He makes it his goal to help her enjoy the holidays, and in the process, they fall in love. 

One girl is obsessed with the holidays, and one guy isn’t. They start communicating through a notebook. The girl's family is all gone for the holidays, so through the notebook, the guy learns to like holidays and make hers magical. 

These holiday rom-coms seem to be a formula. The same story, just with different actors, setting, and overall theme. Is there a reason for this? I believe there is. 

Holidays run on tradition. Each town has its traditions. So do school and families. That is what makes the holidays comforting. 

These movies are trying to bring the same feelings. There is comfort in the repetition. To make the movies new and exciting, they add twists. New casts, new setting, different jobs, and different situations.

If this holiday season you’re looking for some predictability, turn to a good Holiday Rom-Com. It will bring some comfort and a solid plot line to add some fun into a mundane day.
