Exeter High School Student-Run Newspaper!
Students are constantly looking for volunteer hours, whether it's for a class, an honor society, or just to help their community. There are so many different places constantly looking for volunteers, so why is it that some people have such a hard time completing volunteer hours? They just don't know where to start! So, here is a list of some great opportunities students can take to earn volunteer hours and how they can benefit from these experiences.
Tutoring
Students of all ages are looking for help in the classes where they struggle. Tutoring is an easy and beneficial way to receive volunteer hours. You do not have to be perfect at the subject you are tutoring; just select a class that you are confident in, and use your confidence and knowledge to help others. Meeting once a week for one hour during a whole school year can add up to over thirty hours!.
Saint Vincent De Paul
Saint Vincent De Paul is a local nonprofit that is always looking for students to come in and help distribute and organize food for families in need. During some seasons, especially around holidays, Saint Vincent De Paul is typically very busy and could use the extra hands. Visit their website to learn more.
Local Athletic Teams
Many high school students play a sport, either with the school or for a team outside of EHS. You can speak to local youth sports programs that may need a helper/assistant coach to help run practices. For example, you can explore becoming a peer coach for Special Olympics at EHS by contacting Mrs. Grenier (hgrenier@sau16.org). Or, if you are a dancer, dance studios are another great place to help out. To help within these kinds of places can help bring in the hours and show commitment to the sports you play, just ask a coach if they ever need some extra help.
Student Senate
Exeter High School’s student senate meetings are a great place to hear about different opportunities offered to students. You do not have to be an elected member to come to the meetings on Wednesday mornings in the Roy Morrisette room. The broad range of what you do will correspond with any of your interests, and the activities are typically offered to be done with friends, making the experience more enjoyable.
Honor Societies
You might be looking for volunteer hours because of honor society requirements, but use the resources and opportunities offered to your advantage. Whether it's helping prepare for a fundraiser or tutoring students, honor societies do their best to help students fulfill the requirements needed for any society.
