The Bruins' Accomplishments
The 2022-2023 Boston Bruins officially won the president’s trophy (a trophy given to the NHL team with the most points in the season) this past Thursday (March 30) with a 2-1 win against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
The Blue Jackets started off the scoring in last Thursday's game, with Jack Roslovic scoring his tenth goal of the season. The Bruins would fail to answer in the first period, but the second period would prove to be more rewarding for the B’s. Tyler Bertruzzi, assisted by Paval Zacha, netted his 2nd goal as a Bruin to tie the game. With a scoreless third period, the game would go into overtime. However, the overtime period would last only 41 seconds thanks to Hampus Lindholm’s pass to David Pastrňák who buried his 53rd goal of the season and got the historic win for the Boston Bruins.
This win not only secured the President's trophy. They clinched the top spot in the Eastern Conference and also beat the Bruins franchise record of 57 wins in a season. With a record breaking season of 60-12-5 with five games left, these accomplishments do not come as any surprise. With that being said, only 8 teams that won the President's trophy went on to win the Stanley Cup.
However, this home ice advantage is key for the Bruins who are 28-3-3 at TD Garden this season. Additionally, with the top goalie in the league, and a slew of seasoned veterans on the roster, it’s safe to say the Boston Bruins will be marching into the playoffs well prepared.
