Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour
The Gillette Stadium concert dates have come and gone for the Eras Tour on May 19th, 20th, and 21st. Taylor Swift has the biggest connection to this stadium and the New England fans. Gillette Stadium was her first stadium she played at and was the first female solo headlining act to perform for Gillette Stadium. She also had her first rain show during her Speak Now tour there.
During her May 19th concert, she played Should’ve Said No and Better Man for her two surprise songs. Many people skipped school that day for the concert. The openers were GAYLE and Phoebe Bridgers. Phoebe Bridgers came in later also to perform Nothing New with Taylor Swift.
As much as her opening night at Gillette Stadium was exciting, May 20th was expected as a rain show. Only Taylor Swift fans would be more excited for a rain show than a sunny show. It rained for three and a half hours and Miss Swift kept playing. She seemed happy to be able to play in the rain again for Gillette Stadium from her smiles and saying, “I’m the happiest I have ever been”. During her surprise songs, she swept her hand along the top of the piano to try and stop the rain from creating such a big puddle. She played Invisible and Question…? as her surprise songs. The best performance of hers in the downpour was Illicit Affairs due to the amount of raw emotion she expressed. It’s also worth noting that after the show a woman gave birth in the parking lot and someone's car fell into a ditch.
Her concert on May 21st was a very important one to Swift. On Sunday after 13 years since her first performance at Gillette, it was marked as her 13th concert she has played in Gillette. If you know Taylor Swift, you know that 13 is her lucky number. The openers for this show were Gracie Abrahm and Phoebe Bridgers. During her surprise songs, she played one on guitar and one on piano; but because of the rain from the night before, the piano was broken. Swift had to improvise and play both songs on the guitar, which were I Think He Knows and Red.
Taylor Swift is deeply loved by her New England fans and the concerts’ proved it. After her performance of Champagne Problems, she had a long standing ovation from all of the concerts. During the third night at Gillette, she began crying from how long the fans continued to cheer her on. As she moves on to her next performances, many will follow her tour, as it may just be the most iconic one yet!
