The Hidden Wisdom Behind Kendall Jenner's Famous Quote

Kendall Jenner’s meme-worthy “experiencing things” quote often receives comments regarding how much nonsense it contains, as it repeats the word “experience” five times over the course of a singular sentence. Yet, Jenner’s quote might actually hint towards some wisdom despite the common opinion that it makes no sense.

In a 2016 episode of her family’s TV series, Keeping up With the Kardashians, Kendall, age 20 at the time, was conversing with her younger sister Kylie, age 18, about having new experiences in life, especially regarding her relationship status. Kendall stated, “I think you should experience it; you always say I want to experience things but I don't think you actually want to experience things because you would experience it if you wanted to experience things.” At first reading (or first listen), this seems repetitive, wordy, and full of nonsense. But, if we look closer we can actually see the hidden intelligence behind Kendall’s statement.

The quote hints towards the complex idea of one not wanting to undergo a certain experience for the sheer reason that once it has been faced, it most likely won’t be encountered again. For instance, one might be so eager for a vacation that they almost don’t want to be faced with the experience because, once undergone, it will be over and done. In Kylie’s case, she might be eager for a new relationship; however, the possibility of heartbreak could deter her from even igniting a romance to begin with.

To make Kendall’s sentiment easier to understand, a reworded version of the quote could be: “I think you should face it, you always say ‘I want to endure this’ but I’m not sure that you actually want to undergo the experience because you would actually have to reap the consequences or benefits if you were to go through with it.”

All in all, Kendall Jenner’s quote might not make sense on its own. However, once it is debunked, a relatable message can be derived.
