Exeter High School Student-Run Newspaper!
In November 2021, when the Thanksgiving break came to a close and students shifted their attention to the 2021 holiday break, many were surprised to find that we would not be getting December 23rd off. Some were convinced that in years past we had always been given the 23rd off and felt this year we were being gypped a vacation day. However, others argued that we never got the 23rd off and that the vacation only seemed shorter because Christmas happened to fall on a Saturday. Furthermore, some were not concerned by the 23rd but still felt that the holiday break in total was shorter this year, while others believed it was the same length it has always been. In response to this school-wide uncertainty, I decided to compile all available holiday-break data to help us decide whether or not the 2021 Holiday break was shortened.

After looking at the data from the last four years, it appears that this year was an average year in terms of the first day of break and the total number of days off. This year, our first day of break is the 24th and we have 10 days off in total, which lines up perfectly with the average numbers. However, it should be noted that this is only four years worth of information; therefore, this information may not be indicative of SAU16’s entire holiday break history. But seeing as the district seems to be pretty systematic in their planning, I am inclined to believe that if we looked back even further, we would find similar information. As it turns out, there was not much to complain about for the holiday break after all.
